Re: Female Personal Hygiene
assalamu alaykum
flutterz : I couldn't work out if you're goin on hajj or umrah? (and when? cos it might be hot/cold depending) I don't know how hajj works, I've only been on umrah. Take a small bag to keep things safe in, loose long clothing (kaftans?) to wear beneath abayas if ur abayas. ankle socks/sport socks for when you have to walk barefoot..and a couple of cheap flipflops, which you can buy there. I suggest white clothing, a couple of face cloths that you can drench in water and place on your head.
Maybe get used to cleaning dirty bathrooms?
need du'as please...x is playing up again.

omg heba. so to make it worse-- as of today, someone in my extended family is getting engaged (to a desi doctor, of course). after her, i'm the last person of marriageable age in this left single.
so now the mentions of "we have to find someone good for afra" have started again.
(and by good they mean desi doctor, not whoever i might have in mind.)

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I'm lonely. Like, achingly lonely. I cooked proper food for the first time since moving here, and it just makes me want to because I have no one to share it with.
Alhamdulillah, it's better than the alternative.
I guess I just want some companionship. Insha'Allah, loneliness doesn't make me do anything stupid. Like ending up with the wrong person...again.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Bruinrab - I understand the feeling. Inshallah, it will get easier for you
Advice ladies - My oldest sister has some serious body image problems. She's 5'8 and about 220 lbs. That being said, she has a larger than average stature for a lady, she wears size 10 MENS shoes, extra wide. She does have a problem with her tummy, but that's due to problems she had with her first pregnancy, the kind of c-section they had to do and so forth. She really should get a tummy tuck for that.
Problem is, she obsesses about her weight. She's been stuck at 220 for months now. We've told her to see a doctor and have her hormones and such checked, she doesn't want to do it. She is also bulemic, which she has a hard time controlling. Today she told me that she found some quack doctor who prescribed her DIET PILLS! That makes me because I can just see her taking those to starve herself. The weird doctor gave her a target weight of 160 lbs. My sister has legs like a weight lifter, WHERE is she supposed to lose the weight to be 160 lbs?
I don't know how to talk sense in to her, or convince her that she isn't the 400 lb woman who needs a walker to hold up her gut. TO make matters worse, she is dating Mr. Shallow who told her that he can't see himself with her in the long term because of her weight. He's been dating her for almost a year. I think he's using it as a lame excuse to avoid commitment, especially since he calls her and says "but we can still date right?" That just makes her obsession even worse.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Chotoo, this doctor sounds like he came out of Requiem for a Dream. and the guy she's seeing sounds like bad news.
i'm not sure what to tell you. since she has issues with bulimia (which i interpret as her wanting to have some feeling of control over her eating habits... maybe i'm wrong), what if she did something like Jenny Craig, where the food people eat is strictly regulated? (at least, i THINK that's how it works) it might be an expensive and high-maintenance solution (once again, i dont know how it works), but it's an idea :shrugs:

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Chotoo, try to get her with a group like weight watchers.. the point is, get her with a GROUP so that she can be supported and not feel like the only one. And I'm sure there are people who weigh more than her and she can see she's not as bad she thinks she is. Plus, groups I would imagine would encourage people to not do drastic things like engage in bulimic habits. Do you live near her? If so, hit the gym up with her (you can just do easy treadmill walking That man is not helping either.
Also, girls, I have a question... does anyone get neasea or upset stomach if they lay down after eating? I've had this problem for a few years (really sucks in Ramdan if you want sleep after suhur, I'm neasueas for hours). Is this normal? Or at least not abnormal?
