Re: Female Personal Hygiene
sumiyia - that's horrible. lots of duas their way.
and why did no one tell me that the last few weeks of pregnancy are so hard?? I'm swollen, achy, moody as heck, constantly hot and itchy, feeling sleep deprived.. just overall uncomfortable and achy. I know I shouldn't complain, but I'm feeling like a fat cow right now.
but on a positive note, I don't have to cook today, yay!

and my God, DONT LET AN EAR PIERCING GUN ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR NOSE. not only are you using blunt force to rip your skin, which can shatter your cartilage, but you also can't autoclave the instrument so it's never completely sterilized. thus the inevitable infection that EVERYONE i know has gotten soon after getting their nose pierced that way. scars all over your nose are ....not cute.
i've gotten piercings at two different tattoo parlors so far and those ones have never gotten infected. but ironically, when i was younger and got my earlobes (one of the easiest piercings to heal) pierced by a gun supposedly meant for ear piercings, both ears got very infected.
one last thing. i know a lot of people, especially us desis, have been raised to think that gold is the best thing to use in piercings, probably because it's expensive. but surgical steel, even though it's so much cheaper, is much better to use. think about it-- if you were injured and had to get a metal plate stuck in your body, they'd use surgical steel. gold is more likely to irritate your skin, especially if its a lower karat.

It was okay, really. I didn't get an infection.
Is getting pierced with a needle more painful?

im not sure. piercing through cartilage is generally more painful (so i hear, i guess because it's thick), and both piercings i've gotten with needles were through cartilage.
how bad did your nose hurt with the gun? with the needle mine was awful, but she also screwed up and had to take the needle out midway and then jab it in again. and then once it was through, she had to twist my nostril to place the piercing correctly. ow. ow. ow.
but at least it was an actual nose ring, instead of an earring like they use with ear guns.
the conch piercing i got (the silver ball. no, that's not me) with a needle was painful, but nothing at all by comparison. and it was all over in a second, so whatever. no big deal. donating blood is much more painful.

Nose didn't hurt at all with the gun. Not during, anyway... a little bit afterwards. I kinda miss my piercing. *sigh*
You got the inside of your ear pierced?
About the dry hair: I'm conditioning and putting oil in it and all, but honestly, I'm noticing it falls out more when I stop taking iron supplements for a while. Doctors in here... does that make sense?

Lucky. That's gonna be me on Thursday.
Can't wait!
About the oil in the hair: my grandma came over yesterday and noticed I had a headwrap on and told me I should've come to her to oil my hair. I usually do, but I didn't have the time yesterday and figured I could do it myself. I love my grandma.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
as a lot of you know, i live in an area that has a lot of muslims, so alhamdulillah i dont experience this kind of thing a lot. it always surprises me when i do, even though it probably shouldnt. some people are ignorant regardless of their enviornment....
this morning i came into work. there were a man and a woman in an elevator as i walked up to it, the guy stuck his hand out to hold the door so me and another guy could get on. the lady took one look at me and stepped off the elevator and gave some excuse about being claustrophobic. more like islamophobic. i'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt, but the elevator was huge and not the least bit crowded and her sudden fit of claustrophobia began the second she looked up and saw me. she had been looking down as both me and the other guy got on, even asked us what floors we wanted. when she looked up and saw my hijab is when she jumped out. i had the urge to get off too and tell her id wait for the next one with her, just to see what she'd do. i wonder if she would have taken the stairs haha. ignorant people are annoying...

Sumiyia: inna lilahi wa inna ilaihi raji'oon. May Allah grant him swift entry into Jannah and ease his family's pain, ameen.
So I started my Hebrew Bible New Testament class today...the professor is a reverend and a LADY! We got out early so I stayed after class to talk to her ( ) . We were just talking and she told me there used to be quite an active group around here of Muslim and Christian women and they'd meet together like once a month for social gatherings and organize interfaith events. She said now there's a new group that meets that also includes Jewish women. This sounds awesome, I so want to look into it!
In other news I'm feeling a lot better. I've been sick as a dog for like 2 days now but fo | |
