A good read. You know I've never met old people who were so helpless that they couldn't live alone, or at least without a carer with their family. May Allah swt grant us all good health, ameen. Makes me want to volunteer when I get back, but old people are often racist, angry people I'm sure that can be changed with effort, just a tad frightening and awkward.

I didnt read your link but your post reminded me of this one man a couple of days ago. I was waiting for Timbit at a coffee shop, had some readings to do and so I went to the very last table and settled there. There was a very old man sitting at the table next to mine, and from the corner of my eye I saw him jerking his knee again and again and felt somewhat distracted. Anyway, so I decided to take a few minutes, re-focus and then start reading again. and as I watch this old man (well into his 80's or 90's even), he was just staring at random people who were entering/leaving the shop. In between he would start reading his newspaper again, and randomly glancing at his watch. And I just felt so heart broken because it seemed like he was just trying to waste time and sit out his life doing nothing- though, I could be wrong and he couldve been waiting for someone-the someone never arrived, and he slowly got up-he seemed to have been having trouble standing- put on his jacket and wandered out of the coffee shop. I saw him just standing at the corner outside probably deciding which way to go...

anyway, alhamdulilah. Generally when I see elder women like that I smile so they can feel like they can approach me for conversation or whatever just as a deed for the day thing. But Im not so friendly with older men- i feel uncomfortable. So there really wasnt much I couldve done for him. sigh.

aw that's so sad. I'm hoping no one would stad up an 80-90 year old, but at the same time i'd like to think he had a purpose to his day.

I love old men (not sure if u noticed in my madinah album ) they're so cute. Older women tend to be more bitter than older men and don't nearly fit my baking-knitting-crocheting grandmother ideals

Maybe it's wise to hope we dont get this old unless there's no other way to jannah.
