Ya, I don't get much sun either (especially since law school).
Well I'm not a doctor so my word is not the be all end all .. there's differences of opinion about vitamins. I personally take the ones that are more potent (like the ones that say they provide 200% [or whatever high percentage] of what you need). Apparently there are studies that show that you only absorb about 10-20% of the vitamin supplements. That's the logic behind giving more. This is especially important if you're already deficient. To better absorb vitamins is take them with meals. For vitamin d3, the sun is the best source, even if it's for 30 mins (but if you're darker, you might need a bit more as pigmentation serves as a natural sunblock).
You might also want to take a vitamin b complex. A good multivitamin is probably best and you can take additional supplements if you know you are deficient in one arena or just take those without the multi. The thing is, many vitamins help other vitamins get absorbed (such as vitamin D is necessary for calcium to be absorbed).
When you take supplements, prefer liquid then gel tablets then capsules over tablets. An excellent source of vitamins A and D is cod liver oil (again, get liquid, I'd recommend hitting vitamin shoppe or GNC).
I can't think of a brand off the top of my head as I usually go by labels and not the brand, but a good one is nature's finest which you can get at walgreens. You can also try hitting up your local whole foods store/GNC/vitaminshoppe.
Anyways, at the end of the day, the best source of nutrients is food itself so probably the first thing to do is evaluate your diet. I took this test and surprise surprise, I'm highly likely to be deficient in vitamin D (90% deficient according to them) and some of the b-complex but alhamdulillah I get most of my nutrients bc I'm a darn healthy eater

Hope that helps. Feel free to PM if you have any more questions.
Maybe someone else knows better/more.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
agh!
question for the ladies who have jobs and a nose piercing? how does this work? i had a nose piercing..twice...but it got rejected by my body or whatever or the desi aunty didnt do it right so i let it close up...but that was way before i ever had my first job..anyways...so im wondering if i get one again which is my plan like in the next month DEFINITELY iA
BUT i dont know bc im gonna find a job soon anyways and it wont be retail or anything..probably office or gym setting..both of which arent down with that stuff im pretty sure
so i dont know what to do..what do you guys do? take it out all the time? if i got it now, id have to wait at least a month and ahalf before taking it out even...and if i got a job in that time, or interviews, i think paired with the hijab it would TOTALLY be like negative reps for me..
ahhhhh

i had asked the career center at my school about nose piercings. the lady there said not to worry about it, especially since i'm wearing hijab. she didn't even notice my nose piercing until i pointed it out (i wear a tiny stud, none of that nasty hoop business GROSS). she said it'll most likely pass as something related to my culture (or religion, even though its totally not.. lol). and given my hijab is much larger and more distracting than a nose ring, its not that big of a deal. i've been wearing it just fine and have had no problems. besides, chances are that a workplace that will give you crap for a nose ring will probably give you more crap because of hijab, and that isn't really the kind of the place you'd want to be working anyway.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
i want to pierce my nose! the company i am doing my internship at this summer was pretty explicit about no visible piercings besides the ears. but i dont know how strict they are about it....and ur right, most hijabis can play the culture card even if its not actually part of it . but i dont think its a problem if its small and tasteful looking
and spice...ill keep your grandfather in my duaas iA

Sally, you know I don't have the hijab, but I do have the piercing. My ex-coworkers were okay with it. My at the time regional manager was like WTF, but after it was explained to him that it was apart of my culture he was cool with it. My boss was like just write a letter saying that you have a nose piercing and its apart of your culture so that we can put it in your human resources file for the future reference etc. When I was doing my student teaching, I was freaked out. I spoke to the lady that was the program coordinator about my piercing. She asked me if it was a pain in the butt to take in and out. I said kind of because if I forget to put it in, the piercing kind of gets smaller. So she's like keep it in, if someone at the internship site says something, she's like tell them I said it was okay and they can call me. I've never had a problem with anyone saying anything about it. When people notice it, I just say its apart of my desi culture and they're like that's cool. If you feel it maybe an issue, just be upfront about it. I think most people/businesses don't care .

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
my breath tastes like strawberry chapstick. This kind specifically: Weird thing is, I never used it.
My hair has always been thick, mashAllah, but ever since I grew it, it's become really thin. It falls out like crazy too Has me a bit worried. Its past my waist and I want to cut it so it can grow back inshAllah but I can't part with it. If I keep it a bit longer, it'll still fall out. I don't like medium length styles (bra strap area) so my only choice is around shoulder length. My ma said it wouldn't look good if I had it around my shoulders (I know she hates short styles though and was always against me cutting it that short). I'm gonna be the biggest baby and probably end up crying if I cut it. I need to find a cute style to motivate me.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Vanilla Wafer: awww I'm sorry to hear that. Mine was down to my lower back when my hairstylist convinced me to cut it right below the shoulders, get bangs and have it layered. It was a nice change for a while but I'm growing it out again. Just remember, it's only hair....and it's not like you have to go bald (inshallah)
I found a few good hairstyles that I would definitely do myself. Inshallah they'll help you decide what you want (the hair styles thread is also sometimes a good place to look). Once my hair is a bit longer I wanna do this minus the huge amount of bangs.
She also has a nice pretty haircut that you could easily do a lot with.
Adriana Lima also has nice shoulder length hair in this pic.
Good luck and don't worry!

Please make dua that we get the house we want to buy, ladies!
