Hm, it gets like that when you start to take on more and more responsibilites, or rather, grow into them. But it strarts to distort your previous balance of things and you really have to learn to spread yourself much, much further to accomodate the changes, sometimes thinning yourself quite a bit. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but whatever you may be going through, remember put your duties to Allah first, and then your family. All else can curb itself, but these priorities are what you need to be most careful of.

lack of sleep good night
Your family will be in my duas, iA

Its practiced but as far as I know not as efficient as one doing it him/herself- there are quite a few reasons for this- niyyah being one of them.

Best to do it yourself. Also keep in mind that a lot of times you dont see results right away, you have to perform it several times to be completely sure,

i dont really get what its supposed to do...i know i sound really dumb but like, how are you supposed to become sure? wouldnt you have some sort of inkling about whether its ok to proceed with a decision anyway..like a personal bias of sorts..is istikhara supposed to be like, reading a dua before taking a huge step or something more than something that helps you make a decision?

ya im personally not a fan because i feel like emotions play into it more than anything else...and if you want something to feel 'right', it will. that aside, it really does make me wonder about someones intentions when they offer to do it for you..especially when they already have an opinion about the matter beforehand.

anyway. thanks guys. i think i'll stick to my magic 8 ball for all serious inquiries.

That's exactly why you can't ask someone to do it for you.

You can have someone pray it for you but it's always better to do it yourself.

And it has nothing to do with emotions or feelings or dreams or anything like that. All you're doing is asking Allah to make the decision for you and facilitate the best for you. Basically you give up what you want for what Allah wants. I mean read the translation of the dua:

Quote:
Oh Allah! I seek Your guidance by virtue of Your knowledge, and I seek ability by virtue of Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty. You have power; I have none. And You know; I know not. You are the Knower of hidden things.

Oh Allah! If in Your knowledge, (this matter*) is good for my religion, my livelihood and my affairs, immediate and in the future, then ordain it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if in Your knowledge, (this matter*) is bad for my religion, my livelihood and my affairs, immediate and in the future, then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it. And ordain for me the good wherever it may be, and make me content with it.
All you're asking is to make the bad hard and the good easy. So if, for example you make istikhara about buying a new car and you go to the dealership and they keep giving you a hard time or they don't have it in stock or something to that effect, that's your answer.

You're actually supposed to "suspend your own inclinations."
