yea i definitely don't want to judge... its just piquing my curiosity because a lot of the long time hijabis who had a certain definition of hijab (its a way of life, cover chest neck ears and every strand of hair, act and behave a certain way, emphasis on gender interaction etc etc), and who inspired me to start wearing it myself, have now switched over to bandana hijab style... i'm just confused and was hoping to understand it. one reason i was given was that men look at you with or without hijab so it doesn't really make a difference what way you wear hijab.

To me: Hijab has different stages of progress. one might start out with liberal approach with hijab..the bandana style and proceed with full conservative form of hijab..as sumi explained. and those who reverse the process might be actually go through some sort of 'peer pressure' or 'self preplexting dilemmas' where they're not sure if they made the right decision..so they're going back to where they started..bandana..or no hijab..
i had few friends who went that route...but they went through life changing experience. I know thats not a good answer, but at times, humans are 'tricked' by shaytan with weird things and one of them is to 'shake their faith' especially where the foundation is not strong.
plz note i used some of the words loosely..hoping you'd know what im refering to..

i am sorry, but thats a really lame excuse.
a girl revealing her skin and her curves is not looked at the same way as someone covered.
I can kinda see what the_only_one is tryin to say...
i remember reading in a hadith...people's imaan fluctuates throughout their life..its never stable.i knew this girl in high school who wore hijab, took it for awhile and then wore it again permanently.
I guess everyone goes thru highs and lows.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I know some girls who wear hijab in a way that reveals their necks. It's not stages though as they used to cover their neckes (unless you want to consider it regressing).
I don't know why they do it, they know the neck is awra, but I guess they think the hair is just more important think the style is ok? Who knows...

What upsets me is that this type of bandana hijab is being portrayed in a lot of muslim magazines. So the young muslimahs who are starting to wear hijab think that it's justified to wear it that way. It just sets a bad example for them.

When I wear my hijab back ( usually in the summer) first of all i never reveal my chest area...just the neck, Islamically i dont really have a justification, personally my justifications are :
Im dancing
Im hot ( and i hate when my neck is sweaty)
I need to even out my hijab line tan ( have a two-toned face is not cool!)
I want to show my earrings and be cute
but yeah I dont particuarly like to wear it back alot, because when i do people dont recognize me as muslim...and guys stare alot longer when i have it tied up.
and yes im a Long time hijabi.
