I know how you feel. My mom was depressed (like actually depressed) last year and sometimes still gets depressed now (my parents last year almost divorced, now my mom's father is dying). There's a dua Imam Zaid Shakir gave me if you'd like I can pass it on to you. I really never know how to react.

Well, if you don't want to wear it, you should keep it at home instead of taking it with you then leaving it in the hotel room. I have a band (made of gold and zirconia) that I wear if I ever don't want to my ring, but otherwise, the safest place for it is probably on your finger (just make sure it doesn't have a tendency to slip off!)
