Re: Female Personal Hygiene
So I just got back from the endocrinilogist. I have several symptoms of PCOS but I don't have cysts ... but this doctor said that I could have PCOS without cysts (and that PCOS is just an old fashioned name) so I'm going to get some more blood work done insha'Allah and go back and follow up. Depending on the blood work I guess she'll determine if it's PCOS or hypo-androgenism. I hope this is no big deal and I really hope this doesn't affect my fertility
Duas please

It's not the end of the world even if it does affect your fertility. The key thing is how you deal with the diagnosis. If you do like my older sister, and ignore everything the doctor says about treatment and self-care, and treat your depression about the diagnosis by eating yourself to death, then you can pretty well kiss your fertility good bye. If you follow the doctors instructions, and take care of yourself, you have a fair chance of getting pregnant without fertility drugs, and a really good chance of getting pregnant on clomid alone (so you aren't doomed to IVF or artificial insemination).
I've had a PCOS diagnosis since I was 16. This time my pregnancy was spontaneous. My doctor wasn't even going to start fertility treatments until March (that's what happens when you move and get a new doctor). Alhamdulillah though, we've made a LOT of dua's over the last few years, and it happened on its own. I'm certain that losing 30 lbs last year helped, but it didn't cure the problem completely. Pregnancy isn't impossible!
Some things I would suggest: there is some link between PCOS and diabetes. Start yourself on a diabetes diet now. It will also help you lose weight. If they put you on metformin, beware, it does horrible things to your bowels. It's possible that it will improve with time, but my experience has been that if I eat TONS of fiber, it's bearable.
Just to make you feel better, you should know that even skinny people get PCOS, it's not just a fat persons disease.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Thanks Sumi and Chotoo, I appreciate the support
Alhamdulilah my menstruation is normal so I'm not that concerned about my fertility, but I guess I'm just worried about long term effects. It's good to know that people with PCOS are not infertile even if it's hard to get pregnant (then again, a lot of people do regardless if they have hormonal problems or not).
I eat healthy and in the past 4 years lost about 30 pounds so I'm not obese and just a tad "overweight" but most people think I weigh 20 pounds less than what I really am so it's not a huge deal. With Sally's suggestion, I'm already on a low glycemic diet anyway alhamdulillah. There isn't a history in my family for diabetes but I don't know if that makes a difference. I really, really don't want diabetes!
Right now the symptoms are just cosmetic (acne, which has improved a lot with this topical stuff I'm using) and the hair (which isn't *that* bad, nobody notices it and I have laser). I'm on the pill right now for my acne but I don't think it's having much of an effect. I guess I'm just worried if over time it just gets worse and worse but like Chotoo mentioned, if I take care of myself it shouldn't escalate, right?
Thanks again gals
