yes. they won't administer one unless you ask for one.
and let me break it down for y'all...
giving birth is honestly not that bad. i'm being serious.
ok, fine - contractions are painful. very very very painful. and if they're too painful for you to bear, then you have the option of getting an epidural.
but the rest of it goes by in a blur. labor, pushing, delivery - it's over so fast.
the real hard part is taking baby home with you and taking care of it.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
My mom had the first of us without epidural because she wanted to and she advised me against it. she's like it's just too painful. I used to be like "ooo, I want to try it naturally" but as I get older I'm like no, stick me, I'm all for it!

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
there's a point at which you cannot have the epidural anymore though so you have to make the decision before labor reaches a certain point right? Also my mom and a friend who had one both said sticking the needle in your back is very uncomfortable and painful...until it becomes numb.
And you said contractions are very very very painful... I want to stab people when I have cramps + nausea + backache. I can only imagine how bruised my husband will be. Epidural it is for me! Or...adoption There are plenty of poor needy orphans who need caring for right? Why make more babies if there are so many neglected ones already?

ok, will remember to ask!
I'm not afraid of the pain, just the embarrassment of the whole situation. I feel like Bree
That's what I think too, when friends speak of the pain...the baby will be there FOR THE REST OF YOUR MORTAL LIFE. I'm pretty sure that's harder than childbirth, I know I get stressed enough with my brothers and sisters, can't imagine what mothers go through masha Allah. You all deserve Jannah...and maybe progesterone, too lol

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
All you ppl going on about childbirth...
I'M THE ONE WHO'S GOING TO HAVE TO DO IT IN...*counts*...7 WEEKS' TIME!
I really don't want an epidural - so I'm looking into other forms of pain-relief. I started having those Braxton Hicks contractions last week and they were rather painful but not unbearable. Of course I understand they don't compare to the real serious contractions...
I would prefer not to have anybody in the delivery room with me at all, except MAYBE my husband, if he behaves himself and stands exactly where I tell him to. And as for mother-in-laws being present - I can't think of anything worse. I wouldnt even have my own mother in there, let alone anybody else's.
The poop thing grosses me out but I guess you have too many other things to think about at the time than to worry about that. I'll be needing everybody's dua's soon, inshallah.

Yeah, my mom has started talking to me about labor and delivery, my sister too. Both of them had really hard labors. All you girls thinking c-sections are easier, it's total crap (my mom will tell you in gory detail about how wrong you are, she had 2 kids c-section and one vaginal). You STILL have to go through labor, even if your delivery end up being by c-section. There is also a chance with c-section that they will give you general anesthetic, and you won't be awake for the birth. Abdominal surgery SUCKS, I should know I've had one. It SUCKS BIG TIME. Don't choose a c-section. If you have to have one, do it, otherwise try and avoid it.
Who cares if you poo yourself? At some point you're going to become quite old, and it will happen anyway. You're in pain, (even if you're on drugs). You won't care. Your MIL won't care either. Remember she gave birth once too, and chances are she also pood herself. Nurses don't care either. They've seen worse. Just think of the mess they have to clean up once you give birth, a little poo is nothing.
I'm gunna have my mom (inshallah) and my husband there with me. That's it. When my mom gave birth ages ago, she only had nurses. My sis had her FIL in the room, and that was it. She told me that even though she and he didn't get along, it was still quite comforting to have someone familiar in the room.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
assalamu alaykum
you sound like a strong woman masha Allah, pushpa, i'm sure you'll be fine I'll make a dua or two for u iA. Have u got all the cute little baby grows ready? and tiny newborn nappies? and babywipes. I Love babywipes, they smell so clean and fresh.
jellymill - i dont think ur supposed to use anythign there, except products specifically designed for those areas, and they do more than just soaps (if any?), i'm sure they're located near the sanitary towel etc area in the stores.
