I actually know quite a few people who send out messages over the Muslim community email list announcing a birth and saying "If you would like to congratulate the new parents here is the number ---- but they kindly request no visitors until such-and-such date because mom and baby need their rest."

I would be tired and grumpy and wouldn't want anyone but close family and girlfriends visiting, (people that I can be gross, sleepy, comfortable and grumpy in front of) for at least the first 2 weeks or so... I dont like to plan my life around other peoples' drama.

wear a really lightweight hijab and just wrap it loosely around your head? that might help. and put tons of hairspray/gel/whatever on top.

I was looking through a wedding planning binder and I noticed that it was so organized and inclusive of so many details. For example, there were a few pages for when guests were arriving, where they were staying, how they were getting there and to the wedding, and when they were leaving. My mom commented that some people are so organized (alh) but desis are like, "When are they arriving?" insha'Allah. "How are they getting here?" allahu alam. "When are they leaving?" alhumdullilah!
