come moving day, we sign the lease and we finally see the place. its right in front of the elevators. all the windows and the patio face the courtyard. there is ZERO privacy, and ZERO natural light and fresh air. i can't leave the blinds/windows open because people are always walking by and literally STARING in. they'll even freakin make EYE CONTACT with me and continue staring!!! ridiculous. i have to wear hijab in my own house to be able to keep the blinds open. its SO LOUD in the mornings because everyone and their mom is passing by our window to get to the elevators. our neighbors across the way have pulled the fire alarm just for fun TWICE so far in the middle of the night.
the unit right next to us faces outside, and its vacant. i talked to the leasing office to try and switch apartments. its the same rent, same floor plan, everything! and he won't let us! our stupid apartment smells gross.. i think its mold or something. i've been lighting candles all over and trying to air it out, but then the neighbors second hand smoke comes in. i'm like.. suffocating
and on top of it all... the maintenace suckssssssss. you have to call and bug them for like 2-3 weeks before they fix anything. our toilet's been backed up twice now. and the bathtub as well. the garbage dispossal's a piece of junk. the electrical outlets here short-circuited my BRAND NEW coffeemaker. our electricity bill is through the roof because we have to turn on lights in the middle of the day to be able to see more than 3 feet in front of us. anddddd the security gates and garage gates are randomly busted half the time. soooooooo many people have had their cars/bikes/motorcycles stolen and/or broken into and the management does NOTHING.
sigh... 9 more months?

This sounds a bit like my fact pattern for my property class (which I got a B in alhamdulillah )
But ya, you should threaten them with legal measure dude. Seriously, they told you you were going to get a unit similar and you didn't. Is there some type of higher property authority you can report them too? Are they owned by a company? I'm sure there is some kind of authority you can report them to...

you're in law school... or something... have you considered reading the rental contract and trying to build a case to find an out?

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
*sigh* if i wasn't leaving..i'd so take over your lease sumi. Living with the father is pushing me over the edge. But like some people have said, go talk to the management. If that doesn't work, I'm sure an AD on craigslist would get someone. i'A khair.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
this morning I woke up and used my new yoga mat to practice some of the stuff we've been learning in classes and I was shocked that I didn't have to try that hard to do some of it. I also did a trazillion ab crunches and couldn't MOVE afterwards. Then I spent the entire day cleaning my parents' house instead of being a piggy couch potato. Alhamdulillah!
I got my hair cut today and it's awesome alhamdulillah! I LOVE my stylist, she's such a cutie. She's agreed to color my hair "at home" instead of the salon ($80! ). I'm getting a medium golden-reddish brown as a base and I asked her to put high and low lights in it so my dark eyebrows don't look too funky. And now I'm really getting a strong feeling that my husband's gonna surprise me this week by just showing up so I'm glad that I'm getting all this done now. I can't wait!

oh wow, and I thought I had it bad!
if nothing works out with the management resolving the issue, you should definitely look into subleasing.
so much better than having to put up with all this.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
life's pretty ok.. i complain too much and get disheartened easily. and i feel soooooo bad about it. but islamica is really the only place i complain so i feel like it's not really complaining because it's a random internet message board. but still it's wrong to be ungrateful all the time.

You're totally not, ok? I know whatever any of us say isn't going to make you feel better, but I really do hope things work out in your favor, iA . And try to look at it from a different pov, maybe by not matching - Allah Swt saved you from something really terrible or there is something better in store for you other than the places you hoped for.
