Living with the parents is cultural, taking care of them is Islamic and the two are not synomous. ....just felt like I had to make that clear.

Yeah I agree, but I don't think it's worth it to fight that particular fight - just find someone who thinks similarly (not that I think you're going to marry a desi or anything

Sally, I think it depends. Like for you, I think it would be nice if you found someone who's into fitness since that's such a big part of your life. My husband and I do have some similar interests and that is something we talked about, but it's not like we share every single hobby or anything. Your spouse should also be your friend if possible, so some common ground is helpful for that.

The only comonality between them is that both my father and my husband are short and hairy. Otherwise they are totally different people in every respect.

not engaged or married, but the people i have seriously considered for marriage have been nothing like my father...which is tooootally fine with me.

We're having one tomorrow, iA. For a bunch of my dad's friends from his college alumni association. They always make for a treat

. One time I invited one of my "Bmore" friends over during a dawat for this group of people (the alumni people) and this woman started randomly handing my friend trash. My friend didn't think anything of it, until the woman asked my friend how much my parents were paying her. Its not like my friend was in a uniform or anything; she was wearing really nice shalwar kameez.

Another time, one of the guests was checking herself out in the mirror while talking on a cell phone. We have a ceiling to floor mirror. Anyway, she was contorting her body etc. This uncle really LOUDLY in front of almost everyone said that that lady wasn't all that and that he didn't know what she was looking at. It was like the funniest thing ever, especially since I know that that uncle was like dead serious.

I just found out that this uncle passed away. He had some tumors in his back that he was having removed. Please make duaa for his wife. I can't even imagine what she is going through, especially since their son passed away a few years ago

ALH, I'm okay. I meant to post the story but fell asleep.

So I used to work in downtown. And I still go down there very so often. There's this guy who like(d) me. Who used to work in the same building I did. Mind you this is the same guy I posted about few pages back. He gave me his humber I never called. Gave it to me again. I still didn't call. After like 4 months I was like "Maybe if I talk to him he'll leave me alone." So I gave him my number. We talked. And he turned out to be pretty cool. Anyways long story short, it turns out he has a girlfriend whom he failed to mention. So she thinks we're serious when we're really not. She happens to work at the same place as he does, and filed a complaint against me saying I go there to harass her, when in actuality I go there for my starbucks and to get away from home. She called security on me and my friends who I haven't seen in a while because we were laughing and hanging out but she's convinced we're laughing at her. She's also called me threatening me but I didn't think much of it, but the head security guy told me I have to inform the police of she does it again. I don't like dealing with legal things. Hence the reason I decided NOT to be a lawyer.
