Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Two days back on the floors and already the guys are fighting over me.
Kidding. Kind of. So the Indian intern got pissed because I got assigned one of his easy cases, and I got a tough case from the Pakistani intern.
They started arguing with the resident in the middle of the ward because the Indian wanted me to take one of his tough cases too.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
So this here article
Acne Resource Center - Acne Treatment with Vitamin B-5
talks about acne but interestingly enough talks about how vitamin B helps balance hormones (among other things)... I realize this is just a website and maybe the more medicine oriented folks can pitch in, but since we're talking about hormones and stuff
Also, docs, is there a test to see what vitamins and minerals a person is defincient in?

Well, I don't remember a lot of the biochemistry, but vitamins are involved in so many critical processes that I wouldn't be surprised if some are involved in hormonal regulation. Also, keep in mind, when we talk about hormones, we usually think of "women's hormones", but there are literally dozens of others which regulate our body systems, and probably even more that we haven't discovered yet. Subhanallah, the human body is amazing.
Anyway, long story short...daily multivitamins are fine, too much/too little is bad.
And yes, you could get tested for deficiencies in vitamins/minerals, but the all tests would cost thousands (yes, thousands) of dollars to do. Personally, I would be a lot happier taking that same amount of money and giving it away for charity. It's much more efficient to observe closely for the known signs and symptoms of deficiencies if one is suspected. And they shouldn't exist unless you have a poorly balanced diet or an underlying condition.

Subhanallah it is
I was thinking that was I reading the article... how these tiny.. who knows what.. can do wonders for the body. I don't know what a vitamin looks like (short of those atomic diagrams they have), but sheesh, they're so important!
The doc gave me some highly potent vitamins which is good. Sometimes I wonder if my acne is related to my weightloss since it kind of happened around the same time. Eating lots of junk (and by junk I mean fake) food. Eating "low fat" this and "fat free" that (because manufactuers have to put stuff in the food to make up for the taste!) probably did not have a great effect on my body. Plus, cutting out calories (sometimes I was eating as low as 1100 cals and still doing 45 mins of exercising a day.. and that didn't even help much!) probably caused me to become deficient.
Anyways, whatever I'm doing now is working alhamdulillah
It's just interesting to see that sometimes our little health problems could be fixed with just giving our body what it needs.
This study was interesting too: Coenzyme-A Technologies Inc. Pantothenic Acid in the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris - "A Medical Hypothesis"
Note to self: vitamins are important.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Just be careful and don't go overboard with the vitamins. A little is good, but a lot isn't better - many vitamins actually have toxic effects when taken in excess.
