A degree is important for everyone, even girls. We don't live in a society that has strong support systems and a woman should be able to be independent if she had to be. the_only_one (I think it was you with yoru sister thinkin she doesn't need to go beyond school?)... what if a girl never marries? What if something God forbid happens to her husband or the family's income? Plus, school is a great experience and that intelligence really passes on to children.
Also, another thing to consider is that once the children get older, a woman may get bored just being at home and might want to get a job.
Anyways, education and learning is important and I'm happy on working on my JD and even if I don't work in the traditional sense, I do want to employ it somehow, perhaps working part time or working for CAIR or something.

Well, it depends. My husband's student loans are more than the value of our house and some of them for med school are at a higher rate than the average mortgage rate. We'll be paying them back forever .

Inshallah by the time I am done with my degree, my husband will have enough years in with his company to take time off. We both want to take time off to do Peace Corps (service required for 2 years). After that, who knows...but countless employers would be impressed by a strong liberal arts degree and 2 years in the Peace Corps inshallah.
Liberal arts majors are not a waste of time and big-headed engineers, doctors, lawyers etc who think so can go ahead and shove it. Just take the time to look up your options, the career choices is interesting and good

Thats great post ...i know how you feel though everybody associates history with wanting to teaching hahahah ...there is a whole world out there that you can apply a liberal arts/humanities field to.

Well, the loans suck, that's for sure, but without them, he never would have been able to become a physician. I don't think he regrets his choice. There aren't merit scholarships for medical school the way that they are for undergrad. There are service-oriented things to forgive loans, but they involve joining the military or working in underserved areas providing primary care (or general surgery) which doesn't work for surgical subspecialties.
I don't have any, so I can only comment on his experience. But, since our finances are mingled, I might as well!

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
so iwas supposed to go to a work meeting yesterday all the way on the other side of town and i didnt feel like it because it woulda been a bunch of crap anyways..probably a lot of downtalking to all the employees
and i called and left a message for my manager who didnt quite call back so now im wondering if i might be fired. a part of me is just hoping i am. i know it's really bad. but i can't stand that place..sigh
and it really wouldnt out of the ordinary for them to fire people randomly for stupid reasons. they do it all the time.

It's not uncommon in the US for people to fund undergraduate and/or graduate education with loans, so the limiting factor is more likely to be your tolerance for debt than the availability of money. If you do decide to do it (which if you love it, I think you should!), then once you're in it, don't worry about the debt, but concentrate on school. Dentistry is lucrative enough that you'll be able to pay it off iA.
