i dont know how it works in states, but here the OSAP begins charging interest after six months of your graduation. as far as i know its not fixed interest, the lowest i heard is 4.25% I think its still ridiculously high.
i dont wanna be in debt for next 10 years of my life. what if i die? nauthobillah..plus, graduation means the next phase of life kicks in...
shaadi loan, buying a home(rent.downpayment/mortgage), buying a car(lease...mechanic...gas), daily living expense (groceries..clothing..essencial necessities...) dental/health bills...monthly bills..(as we know it..this list is endless) if little ones are involved..(sending them to school..)
all the above requires a good job to live a life of debt free..and imagine couples starting off with a minimum wages..than life wouldnt be too sweet..now would it?
its one thing, if one chooses not to go to school and works their entire life.they'll be well off especially if they're "ppl smart" and its the other thing if one attends post secondary school without reflecting how to maximize the use of their degree and or, yet landing another job with minimum wage .

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
NO sex talk doesn't bother me anymore....old school FPH corrupted my mind.
I don't exactly know how to put it. For example, if I was to make some sort of thread sharing some Salafi ideas and thoughts I'd be negged so fast...people would call me a wahabi tell me to stick my ideas where the sun don't shine....and nothing happens. Yet when there's a Shia saying something, and you so little as "corrrect" them. The thread is closed. I also feel like people are more arrogant. You try to share something you've learned and they tell you you're wrong when there's CLEAR evidence before them.
I don't know why I care so much. But I do. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Yeah, Islamica has become like that lately. People aren't open, and there is a lot of abuse that goes one, especially by male members towards female members (or male to other male members) I don't know what's up with that.

Have you reported or talked to mods about it?
The arrogance of some people are reasons why I avoid a lot of threads. Even if they are correct, they should do it in a non condescending manor. Whatever though, don't let it get to you. I'm actually watching a sheikh speak on tv right now about the manners we should all have. Ameen to his dua.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
AAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!
So I happen to be trying to catch some sleep before my Arabic midterm and at 4:10 am I hear outside "GIMME A G...!" and they start spelling something. I'm like "oh great, more drunk people."
Unfortunately NO. It was a bunch of Muslim girls (hijabis) because 5 minutes later they were bouncing a basketball in the masjid parking lot (I live above the masjid) and screaming NADA NADA NADA at the top of their lungs less than 50 feet away from my window. Why? Cuz "Nada" lives in the apartment building right next to the masjid. I felt like going outside and yelling SHUT UP!! but I was too lazy to get dressed. Then they screeched off in a sports car.
I'd like to say they were drunk but unfortunately they were not...immature retard freshies probably. Next time I might put on some crazy clothes, hide my face and run at them screaming in the dark . Or I could make them go away the old fashioned way with an air horn and some stink bombs.

Many people dont choose arts/humanities degrees just for the bachelor's on its own, usually it's a first step to grad school. There are a few things I'd like to do but I don't know yet for sure what I will do with my degree, I'm just going with the flow and doing what I love. I do hope to go on to get a masters in communications inshallah but Allahu alim, we'll see what the future brings. Also, you can get many jobs in the business field with a liberal arts degree. Many bosses prefer to hire more well-rounded people and liberal arts degrees (history, english literature, religious studies) really hone your critical thinking and decision-making skills.
There is nothing wrong with getting a liberal arts degree and it does not mean you will be in debt for the rest of your life if you do get one so everybody please stop saying or implying that

 I get happy when other people are doing RS. I get bored of asians (desis) and Muslims going pharmacy, dentistry, bichemistry, medicine! Like shut up omg. Nerds. But masha'allah that so many are intelligent and hard working enough to do those things though
Yea so I took religious Studies coz I love it, and I'm gonna do a 16+ pgce inshAllah and teach in a 16+ year olds (duh ). But that's only coz I dont know what else I could do really. That's like my backup plan while I decide what I really want to do. I was thinking about doing community work with the BME community as an option. I used to volunteer at a BME women's refuge, but I ended up so bored I left after a year and a half. So I decided that wasn't for me. But I would still look into maybe doing other BME community stuff, youth work? Project development officer? I dunno. They're options that are okay but I'm not really really into it so much anymore, I dont tend to think about them, but I wouldnt mind trying all these things out inshAllah, see how they go. On the other hand I've got my part time fashion course and if I bother to start attending it properly inshAllah i'll have my clothes-making business one day which I am looking forward to.
But the main thing I'm stuck on is what kind of things can I actually do with my degree? Apart from teaching and community work? it's like one of those degrees that you need something extra after it (like a year of study or experience) to go into a particular feild, I think- it doesnt seem like you can do much with it on it's own.
My friend goes a bit nuts over this problem cuz she has no idea and not having an exact plan scares her a little. Me, I've got the options mentioned above but just dont know what other options are avaliable to me.

Click: What Can You Do With A College Major in Religious Studies? and also Majors and Careers: Religious Studies
Religious studies graduates often go on to further career training and jobs in:
* Business / international business - Marketing and management
* Marketing and management
* The government, foreign service, or the Peace Corps
* Non-profit or non-governmental organizations
* Counseling and Social Work
* Education
* Journalism / publishing
* Law
* Medicine
* Event planning, hospitality, or the service industry
* Museums and the arts
Inshallah by the time I am done with my degree, my husband will have enough years in with his company to take time off. We both want to take time off to do Peace Corps (service required for 2 years). After that, who knows...but countless employers would be impressed by a strong liberal arts degree and 2 years in the Peace Corps inshallah.
Liberal arts majors are not a waste of time and big-headed engineers, doctors, lawyers etc who think so can go ahead and shove it. Just take the time to look up your options, the career choices is interesting and good
