Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Start out slow and steady like Farah said. Incorporate healthier snacks like fruits, veggies and nuts instead of candy and whatnot. Switch to skim milk or 1/2 % if you are a milk fanatic. No late night snacks either.
Getting a workout buddy helped me a lot earlier....atleast for me it used to motivate me but now that i'm working full time and hardly have time when my friends have time, so i just work out watching the daily show or the election analysis..sadly i have the tv as a buddy lol. Start by a mile a day, then go up by half a mile.... just be consistent with your excercise routine. Alhumd I lost almost 10 pounds by doing all this and I still indulge ocassionally by snacking on almond m n ms which are soooooooooo addictive!
5 more pounds to lose inshAllah.

Here's my perspective. Candida is a small part of the "natural flora". It's on your skin and in your body from the time you're born. Your body manages to keep it in check, especially with the help of all the other natural flora around. However, it can overgrow, particularly in cases where a person has an immunodeficiency or when the balance of natural flora is disturbed (eg, severe antibiotic overuse - although c. difficile diarrhea is more likely). When it overgrows, it's pretty obvious that something's wrong and the person is visibly ill.
But a normal, healthy, young person should not be suffering from clinically significant candida overgrowth, since they should immunity to it (in fact, a candida skin sensitivity test is often used to test whether a patient's immune system is working properly).
In Salika's case, it sounds like the changes she's made have helped her. But that doesn't really prove that she was suffering from candida overgrowth. It's more likely that she has some food sensitivities, and the restricted diet is reducing how reactive her immune system is. That in turn is reducing her skin problems. The reason I suggest this is that acne has a significant inflammatory component, and both allergy and inflammation are regulated by the immune system (which is also affected by stress).
The threat advisory system is a good analogy. If you're healthy, your immune system should be at threat level blue at baseline. However, if you're constantly exposed to something you're sensitive to, you live at yellow. Add in stress, and the system goes to orange. Now, because you're always vigilant, your threshold for reacting to threats is very low - you often inflict collateral damage while trying to keep things under control. Your body overreacts to the bacteria on the skin and forms pimples, even though those bacteria are just minding their own business. Take away the sensitizing substance, and you go back to yellow. If you can reduce stress as well, you can go back to blue and everyone's happy.

Thanks.
I wasn't trying to draw out your biases. Seems to me like Salika is biased. I was just trying to get a balanced view before I decide to go to a naturopathic doctor. They're expensive, you know?

I'm nuts. It's official. Or I have the brain of a gay guy.
I can't seem to go even a few weeks without developing a crush on someone entirely inappropriate.
Fasting doesn't help, I just get migraines.

Alhamdulillah.
I'll probably go to a naturopathic doctor if nothing else works for me too, so thanks for the advice!

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
hi again ladies,
when i say, i have NO HOPE, im not contradicting myself.
things ive tried over the duration of 3-4 years:
-stopped from myself from all sugary substances and oily food. veggies and fruits only-lasted almost a month. then couldnt
-joined gym and attended 3 times/week for 3 months and more-used to do 30 mins cardio+weight training+crazy amts of ab workout....and i grew sick of it..
-so i joined intense cardio classes all by myself- kickboxing/intense biking classes...stop going b/c hated it
-my friend (plays for intermular school team) and I started working out at the almost every other day...it was all good...most it lasted was 4 months...and i made healthier choice..and soon i found it was too time consumiing esp during exams...so quit.
-began a long brisk walk regime- one hour walk to and from my old work...now we moved...dont wanna walk
-tried keeping a tab of foods that enter my tummy-kept writing a food diary and i grew conscious of the insane amount of food i was eating...it was nice..but overall depressing.
-my sister and I would do pilates..we had the tape...now i can't anymore b'c i lost the tape and youtube ones SUCKS..
-my elective classes (HS/UNI) has always been food and nutrition
-alas, i started swimming classes, i thought recreational stuff might be an wise approach. it sucks. the pool is not open anymore for girl's only..its mixed..
thats some of my failures...i know there are more... ps i dont wanna play the dumbER part..but i feel like reflecting OUTLOUD.

It sounds like you're making two very common mistakes: setting unrealistically high goals, then beating yourself up when they don't work.
Instead of trying to make lots of huge changes all at once, try introducing small changes, less frequently. eg, try taking stairs instead of elevators/escalators. Once that becomes your habit (you feel uncomfortable unless you take the stairs), you can add another change, like cutting out soda (or limiting yourself to no more than one per day). Then once that's habit, you add another change, and so on.
This works better for most people than a radical change, unless you can make that change your entire life for a while, a lá The Biggest Loser.
Edit: And those aren't failures, just things that you found didn't work for you.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Just dieting or exercising is of course boring, so why don't you do dancing, biking, running, and play tennis, etc.........alternate between different things so that you won't get bored and stay active at the same time. The best way is to make a schedule and try to stick to it as much as possible. Try to incorporate 3 one hour workouts each week.
I can't do diets myself, but I've begun to control eating habits.....if you can't stop munching, then eat small amounts throughout the day (like me) Never starve yourself...you'll just gain more weight.
Now if only I can find a regular partner to play tennis with
