Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Spice, the sugar just acts as the stuff scrubbing you skin. Feels so nice. I just did it myself. But than it opened my poors like crazy, probably becuase I steamed my face prior to the scrub..so now i have on my Queen Helene Mint Mask.
Whats an ingrown hair?! OH and FARAH or someone needs to give me the "directions". Or is it posted on FB!? AND what kind of wax should I use..home-made or store bought?

warm compress for a few minutes every day, opens the pores and encourages the ingrown hair to come out. Make sure you scrub/exfoliate before hair removal, to prevent them in the first place.

Why you need folic acid
Folic acid is VERY important in the first trimester as it is essential for developing the baby's spinal cord properly and preventing neural tube birth defects like spina bifida. I didn't take supplements however, until I found out I was pregnant (at 6 weeks). I think as long as you're having a healthy diet anyway, with plenty of folate-rich foods, taking supplements beforehand isn't as important as taking it when you're actually pregnant, although it would be more sensible to do so.
400 micrograms a day (that's 0.4 mg) is twice the recommended daily amount so it's more than enough, although you should also eat plenty of folate-rich foods as well as taking supplements.

I used to have MAD MAD ingrown hairs when I was younger. This one leg-waxer lady (sorry don'tk now what to call them!) told me to wax/epilate after taking a warm shower because my pores would be open. I tried it out and whateverl logic lies behind, IT WORKED! Alhamdulillah. Ya, so always always just do it after a shower. I even tried to go back once and epilate before a shower and I paid the price.
Ingrown hairs is basically just the hair getting stuck in dead skin cells so make sure you always exfoliate and keep your skin moisturized.
Hope that helps.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
A couple of my friends recommended a Muslim mechanic. My friend told me that I may feel uncomfortable talking to him and even going to his shop solo. Last night my dad told me that I should maybe cover my hair before going today (many of you know, I am a non-hijabi). I have to be there by 11 and I have no one to go with me and bring me back. I'll be stuck there. I don't know what to do! I'm considering going to the ATM and getting money for a cab, but I don't feel coming back in a cab from a questionable neighborhood. And I don't know if anyone can take me back to the shop .

Yeah, if you eat normal american foods (like breakfast cereal every day, grocery store bread, vegetables and things) you will get enough folic acid in your diet. I think it's a good idea to add a multi-vitamin to that though, because once you get pregnant it might be hard to keep a propper diet beucase of morning sickness and stuff. Your iron needs also increase durring pregnancy, and sometimes it's hard to get enough iron from diet alone.
I take Nature Made women's formula for multi-vitamin, because the bottle specifically mentions that the gelatin they use is from fish (so it's halal) most of the other vitamins don't mention anything but gelatin. They also have a prenatal formula for $3 more, but looking at the bottles I didn't see much difference in the ingredients.

i love love love this site -- Make Up Tips, How-to Apply Make Up, Eye Make Up, Mac Cosmetics
she's sooo good at showing what's the best way to do eyemakeup. it depends on your tastes, but my fav tutorials so far that i had success with were smoky eye, gold&green
and dramatic purple. don't worry if you don't have the exact brand/color, just work with what you have. btw, an eye primer really makes a world of a difference. urban decay's primer potion is magical. good luck!
pushpa and chootomotoo -- thanks for the info on folate, the links helped even though i take a multivitamin, i'm making an effort these days to get most of my vitamins from real food. it's a good thing that i already like foods broccoli and brussel sprouts -- now i just have to try to not drown them in butter! it's cool though that foods like lentils and chickpeas have folate too, that'll be easy to work into meals.
