Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Actually, it usually is given with every kid. Its a custom within Punjabis for sure. Everytime someone has a baby, his/her family shower them with gifts for the baby, as well as gold jewellery and clothes for the new mother. Its a celebrationg called Jamna. There are gifts all over the place, but the only one who misses out on getting gifts is daddy

hmm, i guess it's kind of like that for us too, except i dont really remember it being anywhere as emphasized or a big deal when it comes to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th child as it is for a first born..

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
it's probably because first borns are unique in the type of excitement they bring to their immediate family.
oh and also, with baby showers becoming increasingly more and more common in the western world, people are holding out and actually thinking about the kinds of gifts they give before/after, etc. i guess by people in this case i mean those who arent really family.

Please, please...does anyone have curly hair and can give me good tips on how to tame it? In Greenwich my hair is fine, but ever since I've been in New Haven for school, my hair has gone crazy!!! I have hair like Rebecca Greyhart? only it's waist length. If any of you have curly hair, please share tips!!!

I've found deep conditioning everyday helps. I like aussie deeep conditioner and redken's butter treat. and using a sulfate-free shampoo helps, as well. trader joe's carries a good one but if you want to get it from somewhere else, go to a hair product store or natural food store because pharmacy shampoos all have sulfates.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I stopped by the hair salon at walmart to check out leave-in conditioners. I asked the lady for a recommendation...she pointed out out then goes "the sunflower oil in it helps keep away head lice, too."
Sunflower Leave-In Conditioner - Back to Basics
wow. talk about a selling point.
did not buy it.

Assalamu Alaikum,
Thanks!
I gotta try deep conditioning every day. Hijab + Thick curly hair = alot of work. I'm gonna check at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. I haven't had time to find a spa/stylist here in New Haven yet, so I'm gonna try to do that too, cause I'm quickly realizing that taking care of my own hair sucks bit time.

the shampoo at trader joe's is part of the nourish spa line. the conditioner sucks, though.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I found my exfoliating gloves and I've been using them the past few days. I also bought a new soy based body wash. Its all natural with vitamin E and all that stuff. My skin is sooo soft right now, alhamdulillah. I heard vitamin E boost hair growth, I just hope I don't grow chest hair or something.
Also, exfoliating your face does wonders. No joke. It'll make it radiant and glow. It also helps scars fade a lot. I noticed the marks fade some instantly. I exfoliated my face with the gloves (gently because they're made for the body) and I noticed how much better my skin was when I got out of the shower. The Body Shop has a face exfoliating pad, but I haven't tried it. I exfoliate with sugar sometimes, works great.
