I don't like canned frostings, always make my own.
Thanks. I tried making 4 different types yesterday at my sisters house.

1) Butter, icing sugar, cocoa. Seemed fine. Added a like a tsp of milk. Went all strange and started looking like it was separating? It tasted ok though, but it seemed too soft/runnyish and looked funny: the kids said it looked like poop.

2) Butter, icing sugar, cocoa. Was fine, not too soft or anything. Tasted nice. Looked really smooth. The kids still said it looked like poop. Then they started having a long conversation about poop and i had to tell em to shut up .

3) Butter, icing sugar, drop of vanilla essence, added a bit too much red colouring. It seemed okay at first but I noticed it separating slightly and the colour settled in places highlighting this and it looked a bit off. And it tasted way too sweet for my taste, I preffered the choc ones coz I think cocoa tones it down a bit. The kids said this one looked like a tongue with blood all over it .

4)Glace icing: Icing sugar, water, green food colour. consistency looked and right and everything but it seemed wayyyyyy too sweet; but then I dont suppose I could change the water:sugar ratio coz the consistency would be wrong wouldn't it? (The kids said this one looked like bogeys.)

So why did the ones I added milk/ vanilla essence to, come out dodgy? Coz your supposed to add those anyway right? :s

I think im going to make no: 2. Since I have to make them the night before ant they're not going to be warm anyways, should I just put the buttercreamed ones in the fridge? and will that make the cream go a bit stiffer? (so it wont be too mushy and mess up in the containers on my way to uni). Or will that make the cakes go hard? Or does butter cream go stiffer over time anyway if left in a cool place?

Oh and I'm using margerine, not actual butter.

Thanks

that's really odd. it's pretty much foolproof. you nuke the butter in the microwave until it's nice and squishy. then beat it with powdered sugar and vanilla with an electric mixer. it you beat it long enough it gets fluffy.

try sifting the cocoa and icing sugar before you use them.

buttercream tends to stiffen up in the fridge.

it may be the margarine -- whenever i used to make frosting with margarine, it would eventually start separating out. dunno if anyone else has had such a problem, though. if things get too runny, just add more powdered sugar. also, when i make frosting, i never let it melt completely in the microwave -- you're aiming for soft or room temperature, NOT melted. trust me, temperature of butter in a recipe makes a huuuge difference when baking. regardless, refridgerating it will almost always help it stiffen up in the fridge.

Ok. I made it without milk or v essence. The margerine had been out of the fridge for a while so i didnt warm it at all. It tasted really nice. It wasnt that soft. I put it in the squeezy tube thingy that I bought from Tesco yesterday. It was quite hard to squeeze it out- the butter (literally yellow) got filtered through the fabric of it all over my hands. I made like 8 like that. Then I gave up and spread 4, but they looked quite messy. How come its not deep coloured and glossy and soft looking like zakk's betty crocker ones? It was kind of hard to spread without it looking messy, i dont think it was as soft as it should be? on the other hand, if it was softer, wouldn't the tube squeezed ones have got messed up? Anyway, I gave up again, and spread the rest with nutella. They looked much better! And it was way easier to spread. I think next time for sake of convenience, Im gonna get store bought frosting, pack all cakes in containers, and spread frosting on at uni, so I dont have to worry about it messing up in the containers on the way to uni.

:exhausted:

Still gotta go search in the attic for the right containers. Pray that my bro decides give us a lift to uni tommorrow .

Make some price labels.

Got more second hand jewellery to price.

Hello ladies.

There's a mixture for hair care which consists of egg, mustard/olive oil, yogurt, and sometimes some people add a tsp of honey, which is reccomended by every desi aunty you will ever meet. It seems I'm losing hair at the fastest rate ever.

So, has anyone actually tried this? consistantly? Has there been a difference?

And/or can anyone suggest something for hair loss? something you may have tried?

Hi,

believe it or not, when i had ample of free time, i used to do all this..just for fun..it'd help me relax a bit. i used to mix eggs, and yogurt and let it dry in my hair for something then take a shower right away, 'coz i cant stand the smell of stinky eggs. i guess it makes some sense..eggs=protein, hair made of protein..might help replenish some..dont know much though..oh and i'w ouldnt notice much strength diference, but my hair would be much shiner and smoothier of course.

n once, on CTV one of the hairstylist mentioned this..(U know marylen whatever's show)

Hmm,
but did you notice any difference in the thickness of the hair? did they stop falling?
I'm trying to do it every weekend, but have not yet noticed any change. Also, please, someone help if you have any other tips to offer!

My doctor gave me prenatal vitamins for my hair. I think they're helping but I still need to take it for some time to see a big difference. Also, my mom was watching PTV or something the other day and the doctor was talking about female hair loss and remedies for it and he listed some ingredients to make a hair mask to help strengthen the root of the hair. She wrote down the ingredients i'll let you know I see her.

i found out i was borderline anemic (probably because i started going zabiha-only and had no more meat to eat). my hair loss curbed when i started taking an iron supplement everyday. i've heard it's better if you take a multivitamin, though (especially one with iron and zinc)

Do let me know when you get around to it, it would be great

I think I'm quite low on iron, could that be the problem? I keep thinking I should start taking it but have never really gotten around to it. Anyway, I will be sure to start tonight even, inshAllah. Thanks.

yeah multivitamins...

more specifically, there are ones that are made for 'hair skin and nails'--they contain biotin and zinc. both are recommended to help increase hair growth. and also, make sure your diet isnt lacking in protein.

if its really bad, you can get rogaine over the counter.

and of course, avoid activities that would cause your hair to break...brushing vigorously while wet, wearing hijabs that are too tight, pulling hair back too tightly in a ponytail. it helps to vary where your part is when you pull your hair back every day to go under your hijab.
