not get rid of completely, but they are supposed to trim it and pubic hair. the sunnah is to do it once a week, and after 2 weeks its makruh if not trimmed. after 40 days, it's sinful.

Ya, it's sunnah to get rid of it. Plucking is preferred. (thank God) (in the Shafi madhhab at least, but they are supposed to at least shave)

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Tonight the Quran was complete at my masjid and it was the 27th . I saw two of my students at the masjid and they were dumbfounded. One of the students mothers was like, my daughter told me you were Muslim, but I thought she was making it up . The mom kind of didn't recognize me either.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Khatam ul Quran at my school (tarawih in the campus prayer room every night) was on the 24th night! 24th! Wow, that's fast.
I don't find underarm hair gross. On anybody. Really.
It's natural.
Also, I don't get why men always have to show each other up. I was talking to this one guy in one of my classes and he told me he's getting an iPhone. I said that I never thought much of them, but I was playing with one that belongs to a mutual friend of ours and found that it was actually pretty cool. And he went like "Oh, that one sucks though. Mine's gonna be much nicer than his." Like, yay... congrats, you have the better gadget!
Maybe not the best example, but it's the only one I can think of right now. All men do this though, all the time, about everything. Everything has to be a competition.

 I love your stories timby.
A lot of people are saying today is laylatul qadr, *sigh*, iA khair. This just hasn't been my ramadhan.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I just found that an odd thing for him to say.
Guys are always bragging. I've had male friends tell me things like "She was so drunk but I just put her in a cab and sent her home." Okay, great... you didn't take advantage of an intoxicated woman. Do you want a cookie?
Or "And then he was going to hit her but I stepped in and physically intervened." Yay...big manly man.
And all of them do this. All of them!
Boys are funny. I don't really understand them.
Honestly, I much prefer the company of women. And I think I'm sexist, 'cause I'm usually nicer to women too.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I'm hoooome! I've missed my family so much but especially my mama
I went to the masjid today for an iftaar party and all the desi aunties were saying "you look so gorgeous today, you're glowing! Is something going on? *wink*wink*" and a couple even outright asked "are you pregnant?" Ummm....am I looking fat? Or is it because my skin is behaving and has decided to clear up a bit? Or maybe because I wore an abaya? Ugh. . My friend's mom (one of the biggest aunty gossips in my hometown community and whose son got married right after I did) randomly walks up and goes, "my daughter in law had her baby 2 weeks ago.. when are you having a baby? *smirk*." Uhhh maybe NEVER? WHAT the hell.

I did not change my name for a few reasons. 1) I believe it is not allowed in Islam because I have no blood-tie to my husband, I am a descendant of MY FATHER, and 2) the practice is originally European in origin and was used to indicate that the woman had passed from her father's possession to being her husband's possession.

Seriously, that reasoning is so faulty and irrelevant to the topic of taking a father's surname. Besides, isn't the mother said to be "3 times more respected than the father" and also that "Jannah lies at the mother's feet"...apparently it's only quoted when convenient.
Also, I've heard that we will all be called by our mothers' names on the Day of Judgment. Is this true?

yup! it makes things sooo confusing when we get hospital birth records faxed to us at my dad's clinic. the papers will say like....
BB Asif (baby boy + mom's last name)
but then when the parents bring the baby in two days later, his last name will be like.... Malik. it's hard to keep track of everyone

ew, once i was visiting my best friend at her college-- a really, really liberal hippie school. so we got on the bus and there was a girl wearing boy cargo shorts. and her legs were HAIRY LIKE BIGFOOT'S LEGS WOULD BE IF HE WERE BLONDE. i swear. they were so. incredibly. hairy.
i took a picture of them when she wasn't looking
but then i felt bad (and was grossed out) so i deleted it
