We plan on giving any hypothetical kids my maiden name as middle. So I guess they'd match my name more than the husband's. I go by all my names (like HIllary Rodham Clinton) but I doubt that most people use their middle names for anything.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I don't like the idea of giving my kids my maiden name for a middle name. I think the middle name should be like a second first name.. Sounds like an idea that might come in handy if you and your husband have different choices for a first name.
Also I've discussed none of this with my hypothetical kids father. Muahaahaahaa. These things are not up for debate Just kidding.. but really, who wouldn't be happy with that kind of a settlement? You both get your way. It's the epitome of a compromise.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
nowadays more and more females arent changing their last names. i thought its better, islamically, to keep your own last name.
i am not going to change my last name, but i might take my husbands first name as middle name....

Hmm maybe. I never had a middle name until I got married, so I hadn't really thought of that. But if you disagree on the first name and do a middle for that reason, would you call your kid one name and your husband the other?
Speaking of names, all of my parents' siblings have different last names and they are all different than my grandparents (all in the motherland). Does anyone else have that?

This seems like crap. There is an IPL kit out that you can buy from a dermatologist's office for $900, but I think I want to wait for the next version to come out...

hahahah..reminds me of when my son was born.. his health insurance card came as "male {insert my last name}"
i kept my name. all my accomplishments have been with this name. i also kept my name because i thought we were supposed to.. from an islamic standpoint. at least that's what i got from the hadiths and qur'an. my son took on my husband's name for that reason as well.

You could call the kid by both names I think overtime one of the names would win and kind of stick as the dominant name...and by that time the hype about OMG this is the name I want our kid to have will have calmed..so it works out. But yeah, I have seen kids addressed by two first names on a regular basis. Doesn't work for everyone though. Sometimes one name dies out, except for the times the parents get really mad, then they address the kid by the entire name, haha.

I thought that was interesting. The only other time I've heard of that was on Islamica. I think IbnM said that's how it is for all his siblings in the family...Weird.

Yes it does, but I honestly don't know anything about it.
I just figure if its dangerous to goto someone who isn't properly trained in lasering, then its probably not a good idea to do it yourself.
But I'll be googling IPL kits too...

Yeah, all of us here have the same last name as my dad, but it's not the same last name as my grandfather or uncles. On my mom's side, nobody has the same last name either. I think it's also possible for someone to have one all-purpose name, like Madonna or Cher (I know someone like that) so perhaps the concept of names is more fluid. In my husband's family, they all call him some different first name. Not a nickname, but an entirely different first name (not on his passport or anything like that). I don't call him that though.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Yes, I think a middle name should be more like a second first-name. Although one that's never used, 'cause otherwise, that's just confusing. I hate when kids are called one thing at school and another thing at home; it just irks me. My husband calling our kid by a different name than me would just annoy me.
For boys in my family, it's usually Ahmad (and I know for a lot of other Muslim men, it's usually Muhammad). So I'd pick one of those for a middle name for a boy... just depends on what sounds nicer with their first name.
Nobody ever uses their middle name though; it's just there. Except one aunt of mine who has a habit of calling people by their whole names. Even when it's not officially somebody's middle name (it's not for my siblings), she just adds it on anyway.
In my uncle's family, all the girls have Iman as a middle name. It only gets used when somebody is mad at them though. You know how you use the kid's full name when they've done something bad?
Also, I wouldn't want my kids to all have different last-names. Unless that was the only way the husband would agree to them not having solely his name. Then we could make up new last names for all of them. But I would just prefer them getting a hyphenation of our last-names as one last name.

haha! I haven't gotten the full name call in a few years now. But boy did that use to put the fear of God in me . InshaAllah your future husband will be on the same wavelength as you. And even if hes not he'll respect and understand your wavelengths
