I think my head just exploded. Good night.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I don't think I could ever play the role of a super traditional daughter in law. It's beyond my comprehension.

Ditto. My inlaws, esp MIL, make a real raucous about me not being "traditional" enough (mostly behind my back but things get around..) and I couldn't give a rat's a**. Let me tell you, it's not a pleasant atmosphere but secretly it kind of amuses me . Make sure you make it clear to your husband-to-be beforehand and feel out how the future inlaws are gonna be about it too

well i guess it mostly means doing one or more of the following to a large number of desis:
being tall, thin and light-skinned, wearing hijab preferred, being uber-religious but stylish and drop-dead gorgeous at the same time, cooking spectacular food, doing chores nonstop, making excellent chai and offering it to MIL after every meal, wearing shalwar qameez all the time but especially at parties, to the masjid and gatherings, wearing tons of jewelry to even a simple family iftaar party, calling the MIL regularly without fail, spending none of your husband's money ever for anything and instead giving it all to his parents.
I fulfill the tall part, the hijabi part and the light-skinned part.. as for the rest of it, I fail miserably . Plus I think being half white is automatically minus 50 points
edit: forgot to add 'dancing decently' to the list.. apparently i fulfill that obligation (not in my opinion or many other peoples' but if the inlaws think so, then so be it! )

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Great, I've opened a can of worms most likely.
Henceforth there shall be numerous heated essays exchanged between various parties, furiously defending the role and taking personal offense, others shall be fencesitters and peacemakers trying to unite the few remaining forces of good and banish evil and tons of holy month reminders shall ensue
And in conclusion we shall reunite over the effectiveness (or lack there of)of homemade wax .... hair being one of the few things collectively loathed.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
ok so here's the story..
this muslim girl at berkeley was taking an evening class. there were two ways to get to her class. one was the longer way around the block, safer with more lighting. the other was a shortcut through a dark alley. she wanted to get home quicker one night so she took the alley shortcut. while she was walking through the dark alley, she saw a creepy looking man standing off to the side watching her. she was scared and recited ayatul kursi and her quls and made a bunch of du'aas while still walking. she looked the guy straight in the face when passing him and he just looked at her and did nothing. she returned to her apartment and went to sleep. the next morning, she saw on the news that a girl had been raped in that same alley a few minutes after she had walked through it. she thought it had to be that guy she saw in the alley, and she went down to the police station to talk to them. they had a few guys in custody and she asked her to ID them. she ID'd the same guy she saw in the alley. the police were suspicious and wondered why this man didn't attack the muslim girl when he had the clear opportunity to do so. they questioned the man and he said he saw her, but she wasn't alone. there were two tall men walking on either side of her.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
sumiyia that's really strange. i heard the story for the first time in a khutbah in my hometown. then later i heard it on the internet but it was on a christian website and some of the details had been changed.. and the story's gone around quite a few times with details changed to suit whoever is telling it
So I've been so pooped and sleep-deprived for the last week (fasting makes it twice as bad). I finally got home and went to bed at 3 am on Friday night/Saturday morning. I woke up at 12 pm on Saturday, fed the cat and laid down for 15 more minutes....only to wake up at 5:30 pm! That means I slept for 14 1/2 hours! I wonder how I'll fix my sleep schedule now

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Okay so like this is getting on my last nerve. This person who i dont particularly favor keeps popping up everywhere on a certain popular social networking site. I don't like blocking people unless necessary and I'm considering adding them to my block list because it seems everybody I'm friends with, they're friends with too! Even people I only know online! I bet they're even on islamica and I just don't know it
