Anyway, I've also heard a lot of scary things about Accutane like depression/suicidal thoughts etc. I don't know if I can try it. I'm going to say no to Minocycline, Tetracycline, BenzaClin and BCPs. I tried Erythromycin gel back in high school and that sucked, so I'll be avoiding that too. I guess I'm pretty much limiting myself. I've heard some good things about Retin A, but I've also heard that it can be just as scary as Accutane... (Fatima?). I looked up some of my insurance info online and it says that I need pre-authorization to get a prescription for Tazorac as well as Accutane or Retin A.

Sorry I should clarify... you likely can't have peels while using tazorac, not sure about other types of facials. I'm sure your derm or aesthetician would know.
I've heard lots of scary things about accutane too but then when I talked to people who have actually been on about it, I found it was waaaay overhyped. With ALL meds there are risks and some people experience rare side effects but you have to weigh the risks against the benefits.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
My mom has really bad allergies and I think she had several sinus infections that went untreated when she was in Pakistan. She ended up totally losing her sense of smell. If the gas is lit under the stove and she's standing right next to it, she cannot smell it. Losing her sense of smell has also impacted her sense of taste. It is not as strong.

I just read on Drug.com that you have to take two forms of BCPs while taking Accutane - you're required if you're child bearing age. I don't want to take BCPs especially when I'm not doing anything that would get me you know what.

Nobody's gonna know if you're really taking them
Anyways, I'm glad you girls are feeling better. I really am now interested in learning about allergies. Alhamdulillah no one in my family has allergies, but my husband-fiance-man has em poor thing. Are there any good websites that explain different types, causes, treatments? Thanks

That's awful . From my experience Pakistan's dusty, dirty environment is horrible on allergies and sometimes allergies/sinusitis is so easy to mistake for a cold or the flu. I have a friend who is fine here in the US but when she goes back to visit Egypt (which she says is similar to Pakistan in dustiness and dirtiness) she gets a severe sinus infection every single time.

wow. i didn't know pakistan or the rest of the global south was dusty and dirty by default.
you really should visit jersey city. or new york city. or baltimore. don't really have to go far for 'dust' and 'dirt' and other such allergy agitators.

just another friendly reminder to not make blatant and generalized statements. cause they're pretty offensive. just think before you say things of the sort - that's not asking much.

Ya, she did generalize. That's not a good thing, but why replace one vice for another. Perhaps you can keep your reminders more "friendly" too

i think 'meanness' was read into my post. i just didn't insert an 'lol' or an emoticon in it - but it wasn't a mean spirited post.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I have allergies and bad sinus problems. When I visit Pakistan they get worse. My friend has the same. When she visits Egypt she also gets sick. Both places tend to have more dust, dirt and pollution in the air. I am sure Karachi and Bombay are much filthier than most big cities in the US, I've never heard of people regularly using the sidewalk as a trash can or toilet in the US. It's a fact.
Don't read so much into stuff all the time.

oh ok nevermind
JM, I think Quds is trying to make the point that cities generally have more dust, regardless of location.

When I said that, I never meant it to sound like Pakistan was dusty and dirty or that Baltimore was so spic-and-span . My mom lost her sense of smell before moving to America and she did live in Pakistan. That's where she lost it. I don't blame it on dust and dirt. I do however blame it on going untreated.

yea I know that all big cities tend to be dustier and more polluted. Fact is, I lived in Pakistan and my friend grew up in Egypt. She's from Cairo, I lived in Karachi. My husband lived in Bombay for several months. All three cities are dirtier, dustier and more polluted than any big cities I've ever seen in the US.
