Gosh! I have a milk phobia. I haven't had "straight" milk since I was 4 years old. I had a traumatic milk experience in India. I've tried chocolate syrups, powders, warming my milk etc and nothing helps. I just cannot drink it. I eat my cereal dry - no milk, ever! I'm okay with yogurt, but if my mom makes raita and puts too much milk in it (you know to thin it out), I can't eat the raita or if my ice cream melts a little too much, I can't have it. I wish I could get over this fear of milk, but I just can't .

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
afra: I remember reading a study once that said that there was no difference in health/weight loss between people who drank skim.
I used to be a low fat nut too but I realized we need fat (good fats). Firstly, some vitamins don't get absorbed (like vitamins A, D, E) because they are fat soluable and you need essential fatty acids (omega 3's and 6's, omega 9's are important but not "essential" because your body can actually produce them). So now I eat more fat
DR: is it the same for other types of milk such as soy, almond, or rice milks?

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Random question for girls who have gotten facials: Do you tip the person that does your facial?
My friend said that she doesn't, my sister said that she does, and I just don't know. I have an appointment for one in a couple of weeks. My skin was under control and now its really, really bad. I don't know if its stress related or related to the fact that I'm working in a pretty dirty environment. I called this spa and they recommended a fruit enzyme facial. Has anyone ever had one? Did you see an improvement in your skin?
Alhumdulillah, I have insurance now, so I will be contacting my doctor to make an appointment so that I can try out Tazorac.

I think its knowing that its milk is what prevents me from drinking it. I haven't tried soy, almond, or rice milk. Does it taste and smell like regular Vitamin D milk? My issue was that when I was a child, I went to India and my relatives gave me milk STRAIGHT from the cow. They milked and were like here. That's when I stopped drinking milk. My mom says that when I went Pakistan, I cried for milk from America . I guess they gave me the same "milk straight from the cow" there too. This fear of milk has also stopped me from having milkshakes and smoothies. I've never had either before in my life. I've also stayed away from lassi too.

I don't tip but I guess it depends on the place. The facial was expensive as it was! ($80).
I had a fruit enzyme peel and it was really nice and it helped a lot but you have to do it more than once. If you really want to see drastic differences, you have to go for weekly intervals. There's no down time and you don't peel like a normal chemical peel. It's just your skin will renew over the week. Hope that helps
Also, there are some at home fruit enzyme peels (such as by ole henriksen) but I didnt even find it having nearly the same positive effect as the one done at the spa.
As for the milk, no, they don't smell like regular milk. I actually haven't tried almond milk but soy milk smells strongly of well... soy and rice milk is I dunno, def not milk.

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
Thanks Salika. Yeah, this fruit enzyme facial is $98 . I'm having a very difficult time swallowing that amount; however, I know it'll be the first step in improving my skin situation. I am not sure if they do peels at this spa, but I don't think I can dedicate that kind of time - once a week, to getting one done. I also need to find a really good face mask.

I'm not sure, but maybe you can ask your insurance and see if they would cover the facials? Besides, if you're on tazorac, I doubt you could do facials so I guess it doesn't matter either way. Good luck
Maybe you can even try accutane

Re: Female Personal Hygiene
I have really crappy allergies (I think you do too?). Anyway, I pretty much get sick every Ramadan with a sinus infection. I think I have figured out that dehydration causes a lot of congestion which normally would 'flow' if you were hydrated. Also, if you take a decongestant like Claritin D, that adds to dehydration for me. I was miserable yesterday with post nasal drip and feverish all night. I'm not fasting today hoping I can put off another sinus infection otherwise I'll be out for weeks. argh.

There was no paper prescription cuz the doctor's office called it in directly to the pharmacy. I'm thinking maybe I should file a complaint with the pharmacy..

Sinus infections are bad but postnasal drip is the worst part, I hope you feel better . And wow, I never thought to link (de)hydration to my sinus problems.. I have always had minor allergies/sinus problems that have gotten severe in the last couple of years. I use Zyrtec though, I wonder if that has the same dehydrating effects as Claritin..
My friend who has also had sinus problems forever researched treatments for it and worked with people in her department (she's a grad student) who have knowledge of that stuff. She told me there's no confirmed cause or permanent cure but that she's found regularly inhaling steam with a few drops of menthol oil has helped reduce her recurring sinus infections. A lot of people like her that I have talked to seem to think preventative measures (like steam inhalation, Netipot etc that keep the sinus cavities clear) work best. Inshallah I am going to start using steam and my Netipot more often (steam's good for your skin too right? )
