holy crap sumiyia, that sounds like it hurt . last week i smashed my left ring finger with the hammer while putting up curtains in the new apt, hurt like a ^$@!$*(% and I cried for like 10 minutes straight, half my nail's still black . Hope you feel better, that totally sucks

zakk: hope your mom feels better

heba good luck!!

afra: hahaha your mom is hilarious, that's exactly why i dont cry in movies when other people are around (even the husband), they laugh! . I have yet to find my movie cry-buddy...

As we walked away from the grave I thought how it is described in hadith where the deceased hears the fading footsteps of their family and then the angels arrive and questioning begins . May Allah save us from the hellfire and the torments of the grave and make this Ramadan a means for us all to better ourselves as Muslims and as human beings, ameen
Ameen!

That hadith gives me goosebumps

I saw Devdas today. i thought it was pointless when i first saw it, now im like romance movies have a totally different vibe/feel to it once you're married.

i love when devdas leaves and she runs after him yelling. and the whole family issue. and the song when she gets married. i can see a small aisha running after the husband when we were kids.
i had similar feelings watching veer-zaara yesterday. i saw it like 4 years ago and liked it, but when i watched it yesterday i was like WTH is this. what a crappy movie. things sure have changed since i became a mom..

so i have a final tomorrow at 8:30 am. and there is this one question i have been trying to figure out how to do for DAYS now. my prof hasnt responded to emails so basically im screwed. and what sucks is im convinced itll be on the exam
i have had unhelpful, jerk professors in the past. i hope the question doesn't appear on the test.let us know how your exam goes!

any advice on convincing professor's from 2 years ago to change your WF grades to W? I have 4 of them. It is murdering my gpa. Is this even possible?
i think it wouldn't hurt to talk to them about your situation and request a change. my best friend had the same problem, and the prof had no problems with changing her F to a plain W.

What're you guys talking about? It's an awesome movie.

'Cause of the songs and costumes and dialogue and stuff. And um, Shahrukh.
Also, Madhuri Dixit is gorgeous!

Observe:
YouTube - Morey Piya from Devdas
YouTube - Hamesha Tumko Chaha (English Subtitles) - Devdas (uh, not liking the violence, but looking past that, the scene before the song is just great. The mother and the whole "maa ki nazar lag jaati hai." Hello, foreshadowing? Devdas with his whole "Mein aa gaya hoon, Paro" and chalking it all up to nasamjhi. Typical man? Paro with her whole "Aur jab meine apna adakar maanga, tau moon pher liya." She got him there. And the song itself! C'mon, that's heart-wrenching.)
YouTube - Bairi Piya (Eng Subs) (again, a little bit of violence, but Indian movies are all rated R anyway and um... cultural differences )
YouTube - Chalak Chalak (Eng Subs) (Shahrukh, Madhuri and Jackie Shroff! What more do you want?)

Also, that scene when Devdas' father dies and him afterwards. Wow.
And it's just a beautiful story: star-crossed love, his self-destructive behaviour, the prostitute's love for him, etc.

today, i can't sleep after fajr prayer..kinda lame considering its still summer holidays for us and i should take full advantage of it.. from earlier experiences, the internet connection is very fast after dawn, so i thought of uploading some pics from my friend's mehendi quickly and hitting the bed right after. while i was uploading the pics, it didn't take long on my part to acknowledge that Ive indeed become a beachball..and its doesnt even sound so funny and cute anymore..its quite shocking how i thought ive lost some weight and the scale said otherwise, after looking at the pics, im convinced my mom and my eyez can't lie..

ABCDlady Magazine - for the American Born Confident Desi

As I tell the story to everyone I meet, I first visualized ABCDlady while running on a treadmill at a health club. An Essence magazine happened to be left on the exercise machine so I picked it up and started skimming through its pages. As I read the articles, I realized South Asian Americans are far behind African Americans in discussing their identity. African American women talk freely and openly about the struggles they face. They can discuss dating and marriage issues related to black men, health issues that only concern their community, and so much more! It got me thinking—why doesn’t our community have a forum for the Desi women who have grown up in America? We are a unique culture of our own and have so many stories to tell!

ABCDlady focuses on topics related to the South Asian community who grew up in America . In particular, we are looking to accomplish the following:

- Provide an outlet to discuss taboo topics.

- Give a South Asian perspective on health, fashion, beauty, entertainment and news.

- Highlight South Asians in the community.

- Help South Asians understand themselves and their family for their personal and spiritual growth.

ABCDlady shows American-born South Asians, who may feel displaced from their culture, that they are not alone. We are all a product of upbringings combining South Asian cultures with American ideas. We have all struggled to define who we are. ABCDlady seeks to help us see that it is okay to be ourselves. A new unique culture has risen from our generation. We are not confused,

We are AMERICAN BORN CONFIDENT DESIS!

Had a nightmare, and as a consequence I woke up far too early and couldn't get back to sleep. Had another appointment. I've dropped some, but not enough, dialated slightly, thinned slighty. She predicts I should be fine at least until my mom gets here next week (unless my water breaks then all bets are off, but that's unlikely).

Now I'm home, and tired, and irritable. I'm more swolen than usual, so my hands hurt more than usual. I'm going to try and sleep.

heba, how was your exam?

aww asvi that's adorable

---

I feel sad that I don't get along with my sister anymore. She has a huge attitude with everyone, wants to spend as little time at home as possible and has gotten some habits that I don't really like including making snide remarks about mr. jellymill (she's sarcastic and rude to anyone and everyone). So before I go back to school I've been trying to hang out with her but she's either out with friends or working. She had two whole days off but of course both days must be spent with friends. We made plans today but she absolutely has to see this friend of hers that's going out of town today (a friend that she sees almost every day and who she'll be starting school with in 3 days )....so our plans are out the window. I'm leaving for school in less than 48 hours and we won't see each other for at least a month!! We used to be so close growing up and this REALLY sucks . I know exactly how salika feels now with her sister

I keep daydreaming about moving to another city where nobody knows me, getting a job and living alone and independently for like....10 years. I feel like I need to do some serious "soul searching." This might sound corny but really, I don't know who the hell I am anymore..
