hahahahaha... "when me and sixpak are telling you" - and who exactly are you two? who the hell do you think you are? the fountain of endless knowledge we all should adhere to? how self-obsessed.

If you approached 100 Muslims who weren't idiots with the topic of corrective surgery to restore eyesight, 0 of them would go "wait, isn't that haram?!" .. and then call people morons for suggesting they go ask a scholar, to boot.

Re: Laser Eye Surgery
let's not get surgery happy now...
first: we dont have the long term impacts of it just yet since it's relatively new.
second: one of my profs mentioned that research shows loss of night vision. So lets give it a couple ofyears folks before we hop on the bandwagon.
If contacts give you headaches, you need to get ur vision checked again and find glasses/contacts that suit you.

Seriously dude, what planet are you on? Are you THAT arrogant that you think those 100 Muslims would share the exact same opinion as you?
Not any would doubt that it might not be allowed?
How arrogant can one be.

The laser technology is new, still risky..and its clear results, complications, irritations can be seen just in the coming years.. so we still have to wait

Opticians don't want to mention eye surgery or else they would get no business!

see bolded text
if you're going to
a) ask a stupid question
b) follow it up by calling morons when given a patient and reasonable suggestion
then i don't see why you expect to be treated like anything but a simpleton

So, if a baby is born with a cleft lip palette, do you think that the parents shouldn't have it fixed because the baby was born that way? Or what about other congenital deformities? I'm curious why you think someone would question whether or not a medical procedure of this nature was halal or not.
Anyway, this surgery isn't as new as some people here are indicating. It's been done for decades, so there's some long-term data out there if people are interested. I haven't had it done, but am considering it.

I love how people on this place just focus in on one thing then ATTACK.
Did you miss the part where I said it's ok?

No.
Muslims who weren't idiots would have the capability to exercise logic in order to arrive at the same objectively correct point of view that any scholar would provide. Or failing that, they would take the recommendation to go ask a scholar seriously, and without calling anyone morons. The scholar would then provide them the correct point of view.

Well, I figured I'd rather get it done now, because I can picture myself having waited to see the long term impact, and then looking back in my old age wondering how things would have been different if I didn't need glasses in the most active years of my life.
According to those in the field, the risks are minimal, and most of the 'horror stories' were from years ago involving people not taking their antibiotic drops after the procedure.
If anyone is thinking about it, just make sure you read all the literature and make a well informed choice.

Well, thank goodness you have declared it to be okay! My point is that your logic in even questioning it was flawed.
