Eat halal to cut cancer!
To me this sounds like it fits our dietary requirements pretty well. Is the world coming around?
-------------------
The World Cancer Research Fund carried out the largest ever inquiry into lifestyle and cancer, and issued several stark recommendations.
They include not gaining weight as an adult, avoiding sugary drinks and alcohol, and not eating bacon or ham.
...
The report also links the kind of food consumed to cancers, especially colorectal ones.
In particular, researchers say people should stop eating processed meats, such as ham, bacon and salami, and limit the consumption of red meat to 500g a week - although this still means you could eat, for instance, five hamburgers each week.
From a cancer perspective, all alcohol should be avoided, although researchers accepted drinking small amounts could have protective benefits for other diseases.

Asak,
NICE! Another good report to go against PORK, but it was clearly already told to us in the Quran. But what does that have to do with Halal Meat?

Yeah, but Muslims make halal bacon and salami and all that. It's the processed meat that's bad, not necessarily the pork.

well by 'eat halal' I meant avoiding pork and alcohol, not 'eat only halal-ly slaughtered meat.'

True, true. I bet there is a gaping market for good fine-quality halal butchers. I would totally shop at a place like that if it existed around here, even if it meant paying a bit extra for the quality. The guys over here are - kind of dirty, no thought of presentation or hygiene, sadly, because they know we've got no other choice but to buy their meat.
So I've gone kind of veggie at the moment.

Re: Eat halal to cut cancer!
Thank you for posting.
Limit your consumption of red meat to the equivalent of 5 hamburgers a week? I think we only eat red meat 2 days a week now as it is, and I don't even think we eat as much as a hamburger patty. Last week I made kofta's with 1 lb of ground beef. I made 10 koftas, and there are still 2 in the freezer, we ate them the whole week. That's for 2 people, which means that in the course of a week, we each only eat 1/2 lb (~250g) or less of red meat. We also have veggie days where I don't cook any meat at all.
hmmm... and last week I made fish'n'chips. (Though the chips weren't really chips, they were potatoes tossed in about 2tbsp of oil, and some spices and baked in the oven)

They're talking about cuts that are really high in cholesterol, fat and sodium. There cuts of pork that are really low in all of those.
