I tried green tea and oolong tea and didn't like the aftertaste. The oolong tea smelled like tree branches. Maybe it's an acquired taste kind of thing? And does the brand make a difference in taste?

i never had oolong, but yeah brand makes a difference. I bought a Whole Foods brand of green tea and it was really bitter. The Numi is a lot less bitter. And I just got some different brand that's bitterless

blasphemous! each tea is its own experience, a tea drinking wise woman told me that. or a Numi ad.

So I just tried Lipton Orange Gardens Herbal Tea. It has cinnamon, chicory and clove in it but basically it tastes like oranges mostly, but it's very subtle. I didn't think I'd like a fruity tea but I really like this one.

i have yet to find a tea i want to stick to. earl grey's nice to smell, but doesn't have a taste i appreciate. the fruity teas have the taste i like, but not enough caffeine. i want strong black tea but i don't want a strong tannin taste (i reserve the bitter for coffee). suggestions?

loose leaf teas are the best.

For green tea, brew from loose leaf with a few crushed cardomom pods, and the tea should be very light in color. You don't need sugar, and there should be no after taste.

I tried spearmint tea once (thinking it was like my mom's mint tea) and it tasted like liquid spearmint gum

I love tea. I have red tea almost every morning and shahi in the evening.

No one outside Britain and tea growing nations really knows tea. The amount of times in foreign countries I've been served Earl Grey or English breakfast, when I've requested another, even at hotels that purportedly cater for British tastes.

Kitchener and others should have spent less time preaching cricket and the Christian faith to the fuzzy wuzzies and more time spreading tea.
For once, I agree with you.
Americans and Europeans drink far too much coffee; tea is where it's at! Something so comforting about a nice cuppa - whether it's your traditional English breakfast in a thick mug with buttery crumpets on a rainy morning, or a civilised pot of Darjeeling in pretty china - there's always time for tea.

Moonstar, Milk + Earl Grey is a no-no. Have it with lemon instead, and honey if you want to sweeten it.

Earl Grey is very fragrant but is more of a mid-morning / afternoon tea for me as it has quite a lot of caffeine in it. I always order a good Assam when I go out in the evening - it's very smooth and soothing.
Peppermint tea is ALWAYS good, and it's good for the digestion too.
I went through this major green tea obsession last year - I think it'll be a while before I drink it again!

Twinings have a really good selection of herbal and fruit infusions - I don't like them all but there are a few really nice ones. Lemon and ginger is great if you have a cold. Throw in a couple of cloves if you like for added scent. Just remember to strain them out before drinking. I also like Twinings' Orange & Cinnamon.
Heba - I agree, vanilla tea is

As for teabag brands - I used to be a big Tetley drinker but I've gone off it now. Typhoo is now my favoured brand, followed by PG Tips. Yorkshire Tea is OK too.

I've always wanted to try a lime-blossom tisane, like in Proust's A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu.
