You can use glass or metal, it doesn't matter. And it should be steaming over the water.

Re: The Art of Baking
zakk you keep the heat very low or even off once the water boils. also, i recommend using wilton's dipping chocolate you can get from michael's, walmart floral/cake decorating section, etc. they are meant for melting/dipping. also try using cream cheese instead of frosting. lastly, consider using the paper dessert cups to put the ball in. it makes the dipping much easier since you can dip them and then plop them in the cups and be done with it.

I made some yesterday, with my cousin. She's 5. She was sleeping over at my other cousins' place for a couple days and I went to visit and my cousin (17) was making cake with her. So I was like "Hey, let's try this thing called cakeballs!"
It was fun. But she started licking her fingers in the middle, so I told her "thanks for the help" and to eat the cakeball she touched and then go wash her hands.
They were good. Especially the milk chocolate coating. I put sprinkles on top too.
My ugly big bro didn't take pics ( I hope he's reading this).

bake a cake, crumble it up in a bowl and mix with frosting. roll into ball shapes. dip in melted chocolate.
refrigerating the rolled cake pieces before dipping helps them retain their shape better. enjoy
and props to farah and fooz for introducing islamica to cakeballs haha.

try cream cheese instead of frosting..otherwise it can get really sweet. after you mash up the cake with frosting/cream cheese refrigerate it so your hands aren't burning when you are balling the mix up. then after you have balls...heh... refrigerate them again before you dip them in chocolate.

haha i used a fork initially, then my hands once it cooled off more to crumble. ive only made it once. and yeah thats the kind of frosting i used, but fooz is right, it came out extremely sweet. so trying her suggestion of cream cheese instead of frosting seems like a much better idea imo. also i think either her or farah have an album on facebook that chronicles the steps of one of their cakeball making sleepovers if you need a visual
