What baking staples do you guys keep in your pantry at all times to make sure you can always randomly bake and have what you need. You'll obviously need to make a run for recipe specific things or fancy desserts, but I'm talking about ingredients for basic cookies, cakes, etc.

in addition to what tsp wrote, i keep cocoa, oil, muffin papers, no-stick spray (the kind with flour in it for cakes), powdered sugar, unsweetened chocolate, semi sweet chocolate and chips, butter (i keep it in the freezer), shortening, corn starch, corn syrup, vinegar (in case i need to sour milk to make a buttermilk substitute), yeast, cinnamon, instant coffee.
these are all things that you can store for a relatively long time (if you need to).

Re: The Art of Baking
I made cakeballs for the first time a while back. Never got around to posting the pic though. It was really messy when I tried dipping the entire thing in chocolate, so I just did half.

i dont get it though.. how would you get it to look like that? melt chocolate, dip the cakeballs in it, and then refrigerate it so it hardens?
-knows nothing about baking. has health freak parents who substitute applesauce for oil-
-has to hide chocolate bars in her room so her parents dont see them-

Cakeballs: bake a cake, mash it up with some frosting and roll it into balls. I used strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting. I dipped it in semi sweet chocolate that was melted. It would be too sweet if you use milk chocolate. I also made my own frosting since canned ones are always too sweet. The chocolate got hard pretty fast. I put it in the fridge to harden faster cuz I was in a hurry.
If you like strawberries dipped in chocolate, then you'll love this. I personally don't like chocolate on any kind of fruit, but this was still pretty good for me. Loved the crunchy outside and soft inside
