Re: The Art of Baking
So. I have a cup of heavy cream and a slab of bakers chocolate left over from making tiramisu. What can I make involving those two ingredients?

actually, the link i posted from joyofbaking has the ganache recipe (which you can make truffles out of); you just have to refrigerate the ganache until it's hard enough to handle.
(from the website i posted)
Ganache Recipe:
8 ounces (227 grams) semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, cut into small pieces
3/4 cup (180 ml) heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons (28 grams) unsalted butter
1 tablespoons cognac or brandy (optional)
Note: Truffles can also be made with Ganache. Truffles are just small balls of chocolate that can be rolled into cocoa powder, powdered sugar or toasted chopped nuts. You can use your hands to form the truffles, or else a melon baller or small spoon. Make sure the chocolate ganache is well chilled before forming into balls. Truffles can be refrigerated for a couple of weeks or else frozen for a couple of months. They are delicious and a great way to use "leftovers".

Today I made Cheesecake Marbled Brownies. I got the recipe from epicurious but I used a brownie mix instead of making them from scratch. You just mix the cheesecake batter into the brownie batter and swirl them together. I didn't like the taste, I think the brownie mix I used wasn't that great, I could tell from the batter that it wasn't so chocolatey. It was Duncan Hines family style milk chocolate brownies. I wouldn't make this again, I've made brownie cheesecake before where the layers are separate and I like that a lot. Next time I'll use Betty Crocker though.

Re: The Art of Baking
I just discovered Ghirardelli brownie mixes at the grocery store. They're really good--the brownies came out moist and chewy. They cost about $1.50 more than Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker, but it's worth it.
