Re: The Art of Baking
for the past three days, i've slowly been going through an 8" pan of brownies... 1/3 left! my husband is not a fan of chocolate at all, so it's all on me now to waste not there's nothing more delish than warm fudge brownies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Re: The Art of Baking
waste not, want not.
i'm baking 2 loaves of honey wheat bread (which is nice for toast and sandwiches). my mom's going to kill me though ("we already have bread; why are you baking bread?"). i think i'm baking it because we have this delicious camembert cheese sitting in the fridge all alone. it's not right to leave cheese hanging like that, you know?

Re: The Art of Baking
oh! something i learned recently, or rather, started incorporating recently: if you bake often, you need an oven thermometer. they're fairly cheap- get the stand up dial kinds that can hang out on a rack and they're only about $5. most ovens are hotter or colder than the temperature you set them at. also, just because your oven *says* it's fully pre-heated, doesn't mean it is.
i got an oven thermometer (finally) and i've been amazed at how wrong our home oven can be. i can only imagine what terrible things i'm going to find out about my oven at school!

did they get crispy after they cooled or stay soft like a brownie? I'm wondering if you make it using just the brownie mix ingredients whether they stay soft, as opposed to when you add butter, do they get crispy like butter cookies...

the top is still shelly looking, but when you bite into it its chewy. not rock hard at all.

Re: The Art of Baking
All baking may be passed to me from behind a modest screen while an armed mahram looks on.
