The problem with News & Media

Salams everyone,

One of the things I'd like to have happen is focusing the News & Media forum more on discussions of media and news magazine but not on actual news articles...in essence, the practice of "news" rather than news itself.

The reason for this is that on the old forum, it ended up being a dumping ground for all sorts of news articles however six months later, they're not really "news" anymore. We have plenty of forums dedicated to specific topics now and I think that moving them to their appropriate forums would be a better idea.

To help filter things out, though, I think I'll have to bring back thread tags and categories so that if, for instance, you want to read Food & Health and only focus on news articles (or remove them altogether), you can.

Thoughts?

I think it's a great idea. Since I am just finishing up my journalism degree, the things discussed here may help me come up with ideas for school papers and article ideas. (I'm getting too old to come up with ideas on my own, I have to practically steal them now, lol)

Do you mean discussing the ownership and media bias with reference to particular publications ?

So most of the current articles in there right now would be moved to Culture and Society and Government, which makes sense, but would we really have many threads about news/media is what I'm wondering, like what kind of threads would go in there...

perhaps examples of media biases, or instances where journalists are being biased. At least, this is how I interpreted what Azher said. I may be WAY off.

legaleagle & purple_alien are spot-on with what i'm thinking. i'd like for news & media to be focused on the concept/business/culture of news publications and media outlets rather than being a dumping ground for news stories. it's the information and ideas around the news industry which may include journalism, news corporations, etc.
