cross posted from the cooking thread. Squeaky is such a ham. She sees a camera and she's right there. I was just setting up my co-op purchases to take a picture for my blog and she's like, ooo, new things to smell and a camera! I must pose!

awwww what a ham mashallah. Kittybutt is fine as long as I'm using my phone as a phone, as soon as she sees it turn into a camera (i.e. it's in my hand, my outstretched arm aiming it in her general direction) she becomes sulky, gets up and moves away

I've been in colorado for nearly 2 weeks and I left her with my parents. She's become somewhat attached to my mom, which I'm glad of because then she's not so lonely iA. I hope she remembers me when I go back, poor baby, I miss my kittybutt

Aww this thread makes me miss my cat in pk It was soo cute. It's name was peaches. we had to get rid of it cos when we weren't looking my son would grab it by the tail and even make the bunny rabbit sit on it and once he tried sitting on it himself and sayin "yay horsey!"

Cute kitten.

I remember when I went to India, I saw a cute little stray kitten and I went and picked it up. It was so thin and warm and I felt so helpless. I was staying with my cousins at the time and they didn't allow animals in the house.
I cried that night.

i know the feeling! my dad says he hates cats (even though he had a room full when he was growing up ). i was forever trying to rescue abandoned kittens and he was forever throwing them out. on one occasion i found 4 abandoned kittens across from our house and my mom made him let us keep them. only 2 lived, but it was a good experience....until he had them thrown out when they were ~6 months old.

i remember one other time specifically, it was outside my dad's office in karachi. i saw 3 teeny tiny kittens alone and wandering on the side of the road. thinking back, they couldn't have been more than several weeks old because their legs were still shaky and their tails were straight out behind them. i wanted to take them home but my dad yelled at me and said no, i cried for 2 days imagining that they had gotten eaten by crows or dogs or that they had been run over. poor babies

--------------------------------

my kittybutt... my sister and i were just discussing how it's possible for this being to have such an evil soul, yet such a soft, fuzzy, irresistible exterior? what a contradiction!

--------------------------------------

here are pictures of my recenttrip to an animal shelter just outside of denver, CO..

their facilities are so different from my hometown animal shelter. in my hometown all the cats have rooms that they have toys, food and litterboxes in and they can roam around and laze as they please...the only cats that are kept in cages are new arrivals, cats that have recently been spayed/neutered or cats that are being adopted within the next 48 hours. in this animal shelter near denver, CO which is 3x bigger, 85% of the cats are kept in small cramped cages. even the kittens are in cages, some of them are alone too. i went into "the kitten room" (just a room lined with metal cages ) and the kittens went nuts trying to get my attention, especially the ones who were alone in one cage....they seemed lonely and starved for attention and kept reaching with their paws to bat my head and get my attention. i wanted to cry

they had cages full of sick cats, this one was especially sweet yet pathetic . he/she kept trying to reach the bars of the cage where i was sticking my fingers in but s/he was so sick that s/he kept sinking down to the bottom as if s/he was exhausted. his/her meow was low and hoarse and nasal, the eyes dull and s/he had gunk coming out of the nose

anyway here are pics of the few cats that are actually in a room where they can play as they wish. problem is, there were 2 patches of vomit and urine on the floor. they really don't seem to have enough help or resources to help their cats...

this was a very old kitty, he was really sweet though

this was the newest addition, she was hostile to the other cats but followed me around nonstop and meowed loudly if i didn't pet her
