Default The Parenting Thread

with so many parents on islamica, i'm surprised there isn't a parenting thread (or if there is one, i'm not aware of it). most of our kids are at similar stages (toddlers/newborns), so i'm sure we can relate to eachother on how to raise children in modern times. parents whose kids are grown can impart sagely, timeless advice. share your favorite beating methods and such. j/k.

p.s. i still remember a lot of us joining islamica as teens, endlessly discussing marriage criteria and posting in "would you marry.." threads, and now we're married with kids :sentimental/emotionalmoment:

i'll go first

here's a dua to recite when your kid/kids smile. it's actually for every muslim you see smiling, but i only remember it when my kids smile. according to my mom, her reciting this everytime i smiled is why i'm "always teeheeing and never doing any work," that or maybe i'm just lazy

Cute thread.

Transliteration and meaning please?

We're still trying to decide when we can imagine ourselves having kids- before the military or after. We can't really come to an agreement on which is better, but we are able to understand each others opinion on why we feel the way we do. I'm sure we'll come up with a reasonable compromise. It's a huge Allahu Alim anyway cause Allah is truly the Best of Planners.

I think the only things I say in Arabic are the -Allah words and when someone sneezes. My duas in Salah are in English.

yes. you care share your kitten potty training experiences with us

ok so, if you're expecting a baby boy and if he will most likely be premature, buy a lot of clothing. most diapers wont fit premature babies, even the ones specifically designed for them so they'll be wetting their clothes 24/7.

problem: my washer and dryer shrink the babies clothes no matter what setting i put them on we're wasting a lot of money buying new clothes on a weekly basis and we can't buy a new washer and dryer cos they belong to the apt. 3-6 months can shrink to nb in a matter of days. what to do???

get a drying rack

baby clothes dry really fast too, and even if they are a teeny weeny bit wet, they will dry a few minutes after you put them on.

Just make some more babies so that way you can pass the shrunken clothes down to new users. You'll even save lots of money because you wont have to buy new clothes for them. Problem solved.

mess with the settings. cold, gentle wash (if you have that option) will shrink stuff the least. just don't go crazy with the detergent (or it won't all dissolve).

if you're using hot for whites, skip that and pour some bleach into the water instead (will whiten/disinfect as much as hot water does w/o shrinking).

yeah, as was mentioned by others, use cold water instead of hot and hang the clothes to dry them instead of using a dryer. rmr that 100% cotton clothing will shrink a lot (and maybe baby clothes are largely cotton so that's why they're shrinking).

Islamic Parenting: Raising Upright Children
Islamic Parenting: Raising Upright Children

This important course seeks to provide guidance on one of the most critical topics of the times: raising mentally and spiritually healthy children. This course provides practical advice on how to raise upright children in the spirit of the Qur’an and the Prophetic Sunnah. Based on classical texts on Islamic parenting, the course contextualizes their wisdom in light of modern day circumstances and addresses the most pressing parenting questions, including how to raise children that are spiritual and love Allah and His Messenger, how to protect children from negative influences, how to discipline them, and how to deal with parenting issues specific to living in the West. This course is a must for all concerned Muslim parents.

I would've loved to take this course. Too bad it's almost halfway done.

Its got downloadable audio that you can keep permanently after the course is over.

Also, registration ends this Saturday, so its still not too late to register.

The first live sessions are also this weekend so you haven't missed that much.

Woot woot.
