Aida and Shadha, the biggest beef I have with that email is the salary at the end of the deal. You should be able to get more than that for starting.

Re: Any nurses/nursing majors up in here?
having a workaholic doctor for a dad and a sister in med school has made me completely averse to the idea of pursuing anything to do with medicine. i would not go to med school if you paid me to do it.
but today i randomly had a fleeting urge to become a nurse. (fortunately, i pay no mind to such fleeting urges, as i have my mind set on teaching)
there's no med school involved, right? but you still have to do all the dirty work and end up overworked and underpaid, no? (...not that teaching is much less work or any more pay)

You should seriously consider dental school. It's hard, but you can have a job right after graduating.

nah, not an option. the problem with me is i cant make myself work hard unless i'm seriously passionate about something. and i really dont give a crap about people's mouths. i want to do something i love.... and if i get a salary of any sort, well, that's nice.
then again, i am still an idealistic college kid who's never had to work a day in her life

Not necessarily - starting salaries vary and they might be adjusting it based on paying for the tuition. My old secretary did a weekend program where she went to nursing school on the weekend. She quit towards the end when she did her clinicals, but was paid as a student nurse assistant and now works for the hospital where she did her RN, so it was a good step for her (her income is much more than it was and she has more flexibility which is good since she's a mom). The hospital paid her tuition and she didn't owe them anything after working there three years. Shadha, look for hospital-based RN programs. It's likely that you won't get a bachelors doing it this way, but that might not be a primary concern for you. If it is, you can always go back.

I skimmed the e-mail and didn't look at the contact info carefully. Okay, I just looked at it again, theres a phone number and the two .. are a typo I think cause the address is written twice [in the e-mail that I got] and the second time there is only one period.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to try if anyone is interested.

Hmm I'm not aware of the current salary for nurses, but I suppose you win some and lose some . The tuition is free and the job placement is at a specific hospital so I think it's like a package deal or something. Kinda like, "must work there for a certain amount of time cause we paid for your education ".
