Tax Rebates
Do all of you claim them back? For those who don't know, tax rebates are calculated at the end of the tax year when you receive a P60 from your current employer. You then send your P60 or P45 to your local tax office with a cover letter stating where you've worked and whether you've had any gaps in employment. If tax was incorrectly deducted from your pay (which it often is) you can get back a lump sum. I've had 300 pounds back one year and it was very handy!
You should have done it already or doing it now!

Re: Tax Rebates
In the US, we have to file taxes by April 15th (or six months later if you file for an extension).

Yep, that's right, Blue, April 5th. It's amazing how many people don't know about it, or know about it but don't bother to do it.
It's especially important you do it, if you do a lot of temp work. When you start temp work, they put you on an Emergency tax rate, until your paperwork gets sorted out. This emergency rate doesn't take into account your personal allowances which everyone is entitled to. It starts charging at the maximum rate of whatever tax band you're in, on your entire wage. What ends up happening is that the taxman takes more than he is entitled to, "just in case".
The pain of it is that it's your responsibility to find this out, and do the legwork to claim it back. But like you described, Miss 300-quid-richer-than-i-was-yesterday, it is worth it.

Yup, power to the layman jammerz
Rawrr, keep your P60, send it off to your local tax office with a cover letter stating where you've worked in that tax year and explaining any gaps in employment, obviously stating that you're looking to claim tax back.
Your local tax office can be found using the following link HM Revenue & Customs : Office Locator On the top of your P60 there should be a reference number, if you put the first 3 numbers into the 3 digit office code on the web page it will show you the address of your local tax office. It's really worth doing.

I filed for an extention this year when I saw the lines at the IRS. Plus I still have to file my 2006 state taxes because I ran out of time last year. I moved to Illinois in 2006 and I still wonder if the boys in Springfield know that yet.
