How do you choose what field to go into?! I'm really clueless. How did you guys decide?!

Oh, and what are your opinions on vocational schools!?

Check with Guidance Counselor at school...there are books, career tests and such, that include-likes, dislikes/personality...also, check the net...how to choose a career - Yahoo! Search Results
Good Luck!
Voc/Tech schools are good too...depends what you go into and what the job market is....
Also, keep in mind you may not be in one career your whole life and if one thing doesn't work out, try something else...Sometimes temp jobs are good for "trying out" a job type. (Gives you longevity with a company, which some potential employers look at as stability, while enabling you to job hop) Hope you find something practical and profitable.
Good Luck!

It was quite daunting to decide and schools always seem to pressure kids into deciding straight away. It is useful to find you enjoy doing quickly but it is possible to change your interests even when you're older.

I've never been interested in a career, after my degree, i've been quite happy saving up money and travelling for a little while.

I've gone through 7 different fields since I was 16 so I'm not really the guy to ask to make the suggestion

Yea but I wanna stick to one and go with it all the way. Insha Allah something will work eventually that'll make me stick to it.

Lets see in High School I wanted to do housing Construction, then In College (while doing some construction jobs) I started going after a degree in Mechanical Engineering, then I worked as the manager of an Islamic Bookstore, then I went back to construction, then I dabbled a bit in Architecture, afterwards I wanted to open up a bicycle frame building shop and now I'm a full time accountant/bookkeeper (which I don't plan on pursuing).

The thing that gets me is that every single one of my supervisors and instructors told me I was good at what I did and pursue it. Life's too tough sometimes.

And yet life still goes on

yeah routine work makes me want to scream. Right now i'm training a computer business system and get different responses everyday. For example, i once asked someone to press shift F6 and she pressed Shift, F and then 6

but i'm handing in my notice soon because i've got itchy feet again.

Because my family won't allow and rejected my need to go into a creative field, I've no choice but to go more the practical way - the Science field.

I can't do routine work either because I despise deadlines and instructions, but the last 2 yrs. made no difference in changing my family's opinion......To make everyone happy, I've to suffer and do something more worthwhile

My free mind can be free on the side, not mainstream....oh well....

You could do what I'm currently doing. Do a routine job but do what you actually want to do as a hobby. Then work towards turning it into a moneymaking venture and quit you're routine job once you're good enough to earn money with what you wan't to do

I currently have a hobby which I use my routine job to buy all the equipment necessary hehe

I knew my whole life that I wanted to write, but it wasn't until I was in High School that journalism came to mind. I mean, I am a news junkie, but I really wanted to do something with radio. (A GM at a radio station told me when I was 13 I had a voice for it.) I now have my degree, but I have a stable job at a government office so journalism is more of a PT thing for me now.
As far as vocational schools, I like them. My sister goes to a vocational HS and I think they benefit students. She wants to go to college, but if she decides she doesn't, at least she has a licensed skill to tkae care of her.

Thanks everyone.

I need to enroll myself back in school. It's called City University and they offer, what I think to be, an awesome teaching program. Still learning about it.
