The official "tooth doctor" thread..
This is a sheer dedication to Dentistry.
Questions/Ranting/Discussions/DentalPhobias/Dentalexperiences are most welcome.
Question:
I thought, I have the stomach to withstand any kind of extraction on anyone. Yesterday, I almost when a 80 year extremely weak elderly man walked in to get his 35 extracted due to Class III mobility. It was not the thought of extraction, but the fact that he was on blood thinner, and whether or not, he can withstand the procedure itself. I become a wuss when it comes to elderly.
Then I get a *cluster of negative thoughts flying in my head* what if it turns into a complex extraction etc..and obiviously, I have observed full mouth extractions, and I never had problems with other healthy macho individuals, its just difficult looking at the elderly people's worri-some innocent faces makes me emotional,.
On personal note, my dad had few of his extracted to get a partial. this whole scenario reminds me of him..
How can I overcome my weakness? PS i am not a dentist, i WORK for one..

I have no wisdom teeth. Apparently, they never developed. Is this common?

I'll try my best to answer it (since Displaced, budmano arent here ) Yep for some people they have their wisdom congentially missing and second most common one is *laterals* side front teeth.

Hmm, I think mine must be missing. At least, that's what the dentist implied when he said that I was in no danger of acquiring wisdom any time soon.

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
I hate extracting teeth.
it's not the blood that bothers me. I don't mind blood. but I hate the amount of brute force involved. give me a handpiece over forceps any day. I do love suturing, though.
you just have to suck it up. it'd be great to be in a profession where you won't make people uncomfortable. tell yourself it's for their own good and grab your elevator. besides. a tooth with class III mobility is very unlikely going to turn into a complex extraction and even if it does, it's fine. he'll be okay.

I realized it was Class III mobility the dentist dude is like "oh..we dont need the sutures, scapel, because its Class III. "i was like al hamdoulilah "
when I first saw suturing, i wanted to practice it on stuffed toys. now ive forgot all the steps. i can't wait to get into dental school inshaAllah..ummmmmmmm all i need is the stupid marks
Besides, some aspect of oral surgery, I strongly dislike Prosthodontics..crowns stuff...I dont think I have the 'acuity' vision for it..restorative, endo is fun(with the exception of multi-rooted canals of posterior molars).., I find, ortho is complex
