i hate dentists too. or going to them, rather.
but i went to one recently and the hygienist said i was brave. but i dunno if that's saying much... she was comparing me to my best friend who was such a wuss about it.

question: can you get cavities from fruit sugars? i'm becoming kinda paranoid about sugar/cavities later. i don't want any.
i'm gonna start carrying my tooth brush around with me, i swear.

Just brush your teeth after every fruit sugar you take. You'd be fine. Otherwise you'd start hearing out the voice of that drill..........ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch that feeling, what is it? Pain or touch? It DRILLSSSSSSSS.

Dentistry is an awesome field. I would seriously have considered it if I had to do everything over again. Great pay, noble work. Sometimes people in America trivialize the importance of this field, since Americans have such nice teeth. It is an irony, since it is only because of the dentists that the masses don't truly appreciate the important role of dentists. The dental hygiene in Pakistan is horrendous. People with like five teeth in their mouth, who can't even open it up due to submucosal fibrosis, and of course oral cancers.

Is dentistry as dynamic and intellectually stimulating as medicine?

Don't know much about optometry, but ophthalmology is a great field.

G thanks everyone for your help.

I discovered this amazing PAT booklets in the bookstore. they're suppose to help and I'm told to be patient with that perception stuff. because it takes atleast two-three months to master that skill. No, if you suck at Preception it doesn't mean that you aren't meant to be in the field. *PHEW* al hamdulilah.

Meds is too vague for me. I need few pages to explain what I mean...

opthamology is interesting but it takes too many years to accomplish. optometry is just four years of grad school and then all you have to do is check peoples eyes and ask them if one is better than two and three is better than four.

I haven't taken the DAT yet, but I hear Crack DAT PAT is a great tool for the PAT section.

http://www.predents.com/
(Canadians' Officially SUCK. we don't have anything like predent website.! )

IVE SOME QUESTIONS: please.

question 1: what's the highest one can get on DAT?
question 2: which school in states look at your last two years ONLY?
question 3: Apparently there are two type of GPA they look at? "OVERALL GPA and then Science GPA"..what the heck is Science GPA? the average GPA of required courses?
question 4: why are canadians considered "international students" !?!

Quote:
For the Canadian/International applicant, your choice of schools is very limited. For the most part, you will bank on the large expensive private schools (or should I say, they will bank on you, zing!). This list is not comprehensive, but to my knowledge, the schools that are Canadian applicant friendly are: NYU, Tufts, BU, USC, UoP, Temple, Buffalo, Detroit Mercy, Pitt, Penn, Case, Nova, Columbia, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan, and Midwestern (no information on the new school Western is available). If you are a Canadian applicant, I'd recommend further investigation into these particular institutions. Also, if you have only taken the Canadian DAT, check with each school individually to see which schools will only accept the American DAT.
-woooooooooh, the tuition for case western is CRAZY. i've a friend who is doing the toothstuff at that uni. i can't imagine how much would be she be paying for her post-DDS. ghetoo.(checkout the predents.com)

wasalaams.

Sorry, but yeah Canadians are considered Internationals. It can be upsetting but I believe the reason behind it is that the states (who fund their respective dental schools) spend a lot of money on their dental students, so in return they want to have that dentist practice in the US and not elsewhere. This is why the vast majority of public dental schools accept very little international students and a lot of private schools can open quite a number of seats for Internationals (i.e. NYU).

It's not impossible to get in the US schools, but it is extremely competitive. You would need to apply to at least 13-15 schools. A minimum GPA of 3.75 and DAT of at least 23 can probably get you in somewhere, I'm not completely sure though.

To answer your questions
1) 30 is the highest you can get. 1% or less of the applicant pool actually achieve this score. The national average is about an 18.
2) All US schools look at your entire transcript, and they also take in account trends. So say if you get straight Cs your freshman year, and then after you hit all As, some Bs, then they will look at you quite favorably.
3) Overall GPA includes every class you took, science GPA includes classes like math, biology, chemistry, physics. Pretty much all schools have a minimum grade of a C for their pre-reqs.
4) First paragraph
