would you guys recommend getting anesthesia by IV? what are the pros of doing so, if local anesthetic kills the pain anyway? i don't think i'm particularly queasy about things being yanked out of my mouth, i just am afraid of the pain
also, how long will the surgery take, and how long does recovery generally take?

I'd recommend that. anesthesia by IV is the way I wish I'd gone. you wake up and remember nothing that happened after the meds were administered. like I told zakk, with local there's no way of making the patient not feel pressure. with IV, it's like taking a little nap. plus..the extractions go much faster because you're not (quite) involved. how long it'd take depends on how complicated they are, recovery's usually about a week or so until most of the swelling goes away.
I'm not queasy either, in fact, I watched my extractions with a hand mirror. but mine were impacted and each one took about 45 minutes so needless to say, we did one at a time over a few years. it would've been better to do them all at once, have one recovery period and be done with it.

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
It was a bit of sharp pain.... I'm an old pro at pressure, I had all my wisdom teeth out by injectable anesth only. I don't really mind it so much. I don't think I was a candidate for IV anyway this time.

it could just be that you have sensitive teeth or a cavity. the only time that happened to me was when i had a root canal done . it hurt so freakin BAD!. get it checked out before it gets worse

Be on the safe side and go see a dentist. I delayed a tooth ache and had to get a root canal done.

EDIT: wow, good luck! one of my friends had that. worst part is, it wasn't covered by her dental insurance
