Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
anyone know why my 17 month old has this black line going across his central incisors? could it be decay? i don't give him any sweets, and he doesn't take bottles. could it be from the iron supplement i give him? he still nurses at night. i wonder if he just found a pen and wrote on his teeth. i did make an appointment with the pediatric dentist for later this week.

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
not a dentist, but i remember my niece developed a blackish cast on her teeth form iron supplements.
since both my backmost molars are extracted or getting extracted... will my teeth get spacey if I don't get implants?

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
InshAllah I'm going to get them removed and get braces to fix my overbite and my front two teeth.

I'm pretty sure 17 month olds shouldn't be nursing at night anymore but I'd say it's from the iron.

probably not. but if you extract them and there are upper teeth no longer contacting anything, they will shift downwards.

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
Question: I keep having dreams where my teeth fall out, and when I wake up my teeth are loose.
Is this normal?

dreams that your teeth are falling out indicate your concern about your appearance or at least that's what the online dream dictionary says. I have that recurring dream.
is it possible that your looseness is your imagination?

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
so it turns out that i'll need to have my lower wisdom teeth removed (and possibly the one upper one i have). none of them have erupted, and my dentist said they probably won't at this point, since my jaw is done growing, and the teeth are impacted. apparently i have early warnings of pericoronitis
would you guys recommend getting anesthesia by IV? what are the pros of doing so, if local anesthetic kills the pain anyway? i don't think i'm particularly queasy about things being yanked out of my mouth, i just am afraid of the pain
also, how long will the surgery take, and how long does recovery generally take?

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
also, this is be a stupid question. but if i'm suddenly noticing sensitivity to pressure, cold, and sweets near the gum line of a tooth, does that mean i may have a cavity there?

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
I just had an extraction done this morning on the molar that had the abcess that was draining into my mouth. The dentist did the extraction and put a bone graft in as well.
man, this extraction hurt more than the last one. I kept feeling it... was it because they didn't put epinephrine in the anesthesia this time? I felt a little of the extraction and I could feel the stitching all the way through (ugh). Right now I'm still biting down on gauze.

Re: The official "tooth doctor" thread..
Epinephrine is used to constrict the blood vessels so you don't bleed as much. Teeth with abscesses/infections usually take longer or require more anaesthesia to get numb because of the inflammation. I'm assuming the bleeding has subsided by now; if not try biting on a wet teabag.

feel better, zakkie. infections make it harder to anesthetize an area...the lower pH decreases the active form of the anesthetic. but was it sharp pain you were feeling or pressure? it's normal to feel the poking and pushing with local anesthetic.
