Help -- Work reputation is RUINED
So heres the deal:
My reputation at work is really suck.
Basically, from the onset, I wasnt able to balance work and school very well so I had to skip work a couple times (and this was OVER A YEAR ago) in order to finish my assignments. I also have a tendency to procrastinate, have a hard time focusing, and tend to overanalyze tasks. I also come in later than most of my coworkers.
Since then, my reputation at work has been suck. They have lost faith in my abilities and dont give me meaningful work (which leads the reputation to become even worse, like a downward spiral). Also I get the feeling that everyone thinks I am dumb and/or borderline retarded (no sarcasm, I really feel like this). This is compounded by the fact that sometimes my speech slurs when I'm talking to people.
No one tells me to my face, only through indirect means. I just get really patronizing remarks about my abilities and it makes me feel like this (without the smile). I hate having dumb people coworkers who think that I am dumber than they are.
So how can I fix the suck reputation at work?

Re: Help -- Work reputation is RUINED
Do a phenonamaly (was that spelled correctly or is even a word?) good job at work. Work extra hours, be extra cheery and helpful, etc. Show them that you want to be there and you're going to give it your best shot.

Re: Help -- Work reputation is RUINED
If I were you, I would NOT QUIT and take it as a challenge to wash away the bad stigma attached to your name. Currently, I feel that way at work too, I was extremely sick for sometime and I was going to work and juggling school work. being tired and not getting enough sleep lead me make some horrendous mistakes(cross-contamination which is a BIG NO NO) in my workforce. then I told my co-workers, ive left my head at home..and I tried explaining my situation even though at first they didnt seem interested at all..but then later, they are more understanding..al hamdoulilah.
then find opportunities to "talk to your co-workers" about your interest. and dont let it get to you, act normal.sometimes your work abilities are not everything that they might be looking for..make some friends..if you are not around, they'll back you up! hope things work out for you bro, inshaAllah!

Re: Help -- Work reputation is RUINED
First things first. You've already figured out what's hurting you, so work to change those things.
Show up on time. It goes a long way towards demonstrating professionalism.
Work on improving your efficiency. If you're procrastinating and then overanalyzing, those are things to tackle first. Just make sure you get your work done.
Once you show that you're professional and capable of doing the job you were hired for, then you can go above and beyond your role. When you're done with your work, help out your co-workers. Don't make a big deal about it, just a casual "hey Joe, I've got a little time -- need a hand with anything?". If no one bites, then ask your boss if there's anything that needs to get done -- and grit your teeth and do it, no matter how trivial the task. Showing that you're willing to work and reliable will eventually lead to greater responsibility. And do it with a smile. Being pleasant helps...a lot.
Of course, this is from a closet gunner/workaholic. I did pretty well for myself though.

Re: Help -- Work reputation is RUINED
Put complete effort into every task you do. You'll end up doing a better job that way.
Also, maybe another job in another organisation or in another field. You need to find something that you enjoy doing, or that you feel is worthwhile. You're more likely to be good at it.

Re: Help -- Work reputation is RUINED
try to find a way to manage work and school at the same time.
then work on not being late so much . (i have to work on that also )
ask Allah swt to make things easy for you inshaAllah.
in the end it goes down to you and The One up there *points uppar*

At my old job, I gave it my best, but all the slackers were the ones who got ahead. Makes no sense. So I quit.
Skamed: Seems to me you don't like your job.
