I need help with a paper i'm writing(stereotyping)
I am writing a argument essay on stereotypes, I have 2 topics, but i don't know which one to go with. The first is "It's ok to stereotype arabs/muslims or people that look like them in order to keep passengers safe. The 2nd is "It is not ok to stereotype in airports" Now I have a little bit more reasons for why it is ok, but I need some more examples. If people here can give which side they prefer and some key points it will be appreciated.

even from a completely objective standpoint, there's a much stronger argument to be made for no stereotyping. i'd go with that one if i were you.

salam,
you will probably get most marks if you present both sides of the argument in your essay and then conclude by saying which you agree with and why (if any) ?

Do you have any suggestions for paragraph topics/points? The only one that I can come up with is that it's degrading and humiliating, racial profiling, I need more topic/ key points. If anyone has any links to online newspapers about cases of stereotyping at the airport that will help me out.

I am supposed to pick one side and try to defend it, the proffessor said she doesn't want us to talk about both sides.

I was writing out a well considered response, but changed my mind about posting it. Why are you trying to get us to do your thinking for you?

Im not, I need ideas. I'm not asking anyone to write my paper. I'm just saying that I have more ideas/topics for why stereotyping is ok at airports rather than it being not ok. My conscience is telling to write against it, but my brain is telling me to write the one that I have more information about.

Re: I need help with a paper i'm writing(stereotyping)
A Pakistani friend of mine, who flies out of country often says he doesn't mind the stereotyping so much anymore, he has gotten used to it and makes a joke, holding up his hands and rubbing his beard saying "look, you need to get a suntan like me and grow a beard, then you get to go first! You don't have to wait in line..."
Not sure how one would defend stereotyping though..good luck

Re: I need help with a paper i'm writing(stereotyping)
Have you seen this? Perhaps something in it will help?
Like although sterotyping exsists, we still have civil and legal rights as airline passengers and citizens ...
CAIR Reminds Hajj Pilgrims of Their Legal Rights
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/4/07) - CAIR today urged American Muslims taking part in this year's Hajj to be aware of their rights when leaving from or returning to the United States.
Because of past allegations of "flying while Muslim" airport profiling incidents, CAIR is advising those going on pilgrimage to be aware of their civil and legal rights as airline passengers and citizens. CAIR is also offering a toll-free hotline (1-800-784-7526) for anyone who believes their rights were violated.
