Wow, you all are really a bunch of hypocrites...
All that 'Opinion this' and 'Opinion that'; 'Sources this' and 'Sources that'
You all don't care about any of this, you'd listen to anything as long as it agreed with you.
Now excuse me, whilst I find Substantial information for my own 'rebuttal'
won't be that hard since no one bothered to find primary or secondary sources...
|
I've pulled together a bunch of things from a number of different sources that are all in my head and am summarizing a body of information you won't find in a single reference book. In other words, I am my own source for the information I am providing because it is considered "common knowledge" in the field.
However, if you prefer, feel free to read the following:
Robbins Pathology
Cecil's Internal Medicine
Oxidative stress and wasting in cancer. [Curr Opin Clin Nutr Metab Care. 2007] - PubMed Result

Re: Medical education and debt
Oddly, it won't let me paste the links all in one post. Oh well...
It's pretty silly how you're going on about people being "hypocrites" when it's become incredibly obvious from your posts that you only believe what you believe with regards to medicine because you think it makes you sound all hard and rebellious. It's also pretty silly of you to think that I'm reluctant to provide sources for some reason -- the issue is that there is very little in the way of source material that is exactly to the point of what we're talking about, and as I've said above I'm pulling together information from a lot of different sources to respond to the bunk you're posting from that site. Anyway, the stuff I noted above would be a start to give you some background on the subject, though you may need to request the articles and textbooks through a library.
Please do come back with proper sources next time, and actually try to read what they're saying and think independently about whether or not any of it makes sense before you charge back in claiming you've debunked the entire medical establishment.
Also, feel free to cross reference anything I'm saying at places like emedicine and webmd, which are free sites offering articles on medicine to anybody with a computer. These are probably the two easiest sources for you to do research on.

SOAD, if you don't believe Khairan, just do your own search on pubmed and look for review articles.

So even if I can pay off the loan in 6 months, I still have to pay that interest. Dammit. I hate this.
We need Muslim-friendly student loans now. If I'm ever making some money, I'd help out poorer students.
And SaidAbdullahofDarfur, you're an idiot. Doctors save lives.

Oh, well... they managed to fool the med school admissions people then and put up with years and years of hard work. And they're still saving lives.
If you ever have a serious medical condition and are in need of major surgery or something, then come back and say you'd rather drink some tea.

Well, you could do what one of my brothers did.
He had $20K in student loans owing, so instead of letting it sit and accrue, he just called up all his friends and eventually managed to get 20 - 25 friends who gave him around $1000 [or a bit less] each, with the understanding that it would all be paid back to them within 12 months or so.
So he promptly paid back the OSAP loan and now he just pays his friends back from each paycheck he gets.
No interest.

Yeah, I'm thinking about it.
You wanna loan me 20 K when I graduate?

Will convocate summer 2009, InshaAllah.
Or is that spring? Whatever. The end of the 2008-2009 school year.

Re: Medical education and debt
one more way med school is viable for those looking to avoid loans: go the MD/PHD route. tuition is usually covered and you get a stipend for living expenses.
only problem is that you have to pretend you like research (kidding of course. all students should at least try it)
