Best way to study
Asalamu alikum everyone,
I feel like I need to start from the basics of how to study effectively? My objective has not only been to understand the material but also get the best marks I can get!!
Regular routine:
-I know ppl say, review after each class...I usually just glance over my notes b/f class.(my days are so long, if i am done with classes, then I do some homework, or go to work...at the end day flies by, barely enough time to get through my daily rountine of eating/praying/going home/shower/getting ready for next day and cooking etc..)
Realistically speaking...I can't review every single day...and i even considered reviewing during the weekend, then....i get tooo wrapped up with the lab work/assignment/tutorial questions work due for next week..or I find myself working extra hard on the math problems that i have had difficulties with during the week.) Sadly, I have cut down my extra-cirruculum activites from 100% to 0%...My one and only concentration is SCHOOL..i have no social life..nothing whatever so ever...
My million dollar quesiton to all the genius pants around the world is how can I crank up my IQ and get the A+ average? ( i need it for dental school inshaAllah)
I`d appreciate much much ur advice

Re: Best way to study
I always thought people studied by reading the material over and over again till they dropped donchaknow. I've never studied in my life so I'm an amateur at this study thing.
The only subjects I ever got As was in the ones I enjoyed immensely (In which case I would spend hours playing around with the homework and doing every single unassigned problem (this was in AutoCAD not mathematics btw )).
Moral: You'll only do best in the subjects you'll love the most. Otherwise it isn't worth it going after subjects you detest just because it brings in more dunya. It's a better investment working that hard striving for the Akhira donchaknow
May Allah make it easy for you what ever direction you choose. Ameen

Now that you've mentioned the concept of working for the akhira..i wanna let my heart out by saying...eventually i wanna camp at one of the maddarrasa's study the deeni of ilm. feesabillah..for this kinda of thing, i need cold cash to spent 6 hrs+food+ shelter..etc..
also i have many many other un-stated responsibilities...and many many other factors are leading me towards this direction..( i need more than 1000 words limits on this thread to go through them all..)..my motto has always been to live for others..as far i know...(myself) im more selfless type...so i all this cash..aint for me..for Allah azzwajal knows my future plans..
ps: i hate school(all my subjects..even though, the material aint that hard..but remember the freaking facts/details is just pain)
ps2: ppl on facebook join! dentists aboard group!
ps3: jazaks bro for ur kind dua3, u deserve a rep!
ps3 I must study...

Re: Best way to study
I usually used to leave big things like lab reports until the weekend. I never really studied much except the week or two before the exam.
undergrad is a blur.

Re: Best way to study
I had the habit of studying everything one or two weeks before the exams too. And I was used to it because I would still get good or average grades but I always felt I didn't perform to the best of my capabilities. But once I didn't do too well.
I'm trying to change that habit now and Alhamdulilah, to a certain extent it works and helps. I would recommend trying to revise your notes everyday or every other day at least and doing/giving homework on time helps too. The more you keep revising, the better it will be stored in your long-term memory and you'll be able to remember better in your exams. Also make sure you organise your notes because in the end when you sit down to study, you'll have everything in order.
Secondly, before when I did the one-two weeks thing, I would miss out on a lot of stuff and there were the sleepless nights and added stress.

Re: Best way to study
i USED to usually procastinate..but then if id get a B+/C then I wouldnt kill myself over it, b/c my grades would be direct proportional to the efforts i put in...BUT If i study my bottom off and i get these unexpected ugly grades...then I wanna jump off a cliff..

Re: Best way to study
I'm happy to just be out of school lol.
I do miss studying though. It's hard, but right before getting my AA degree I had taken a really difficult course load: Intercultural Communication or something, Biology 101 and Math 156. The Math and Bio really were so difficult! And labs were once a week and the rest of the work was online. I just kept studying every free minute I had-it was really hard and just plain depressing though. I had a 2 hour break between classes and I used that time to study Biology 101,which was by far the most difficult class I have ever taken-next to Biopsychology.
Anyway, I still like to study on my own for pleasure, but it feels great not to think about the stress of exams and papers, alhamdulillah I'm part of the work-force now.

Re: Best way to study
I seriously procrastinate so hard. I study for an exam minutes before the test starts.
Sadly, I've failed the last 5 tests in 3 of my classes. I need to straighten my act.

I wouldn't quite phrase it like that, but interesting perspective . I almost made my way through college doing that .
One of the most useful studying techniques is to discuss the material with a classmate or friend. That way it becomes easier to recall during the exam.
