Stop supporting his point about higher education and it's correlation to the kitchen.

I'm still at a loss as to what I should do my masters in. I have been doing plenty of research, but I just can't make up my mind! Also, don't feel like the graduate school "type".

Everyone else in here seems to have it figured out, Mash'Allah. Hope all of you can achieve your goals .

Still have no clue what I want to do my masters in.

Questions for the sisters on this forum pursuing a masters: What is it a masters in? Is it totally unrelated to your bachelor's degree?

What was your undergrad in? English, if I recall correctly?

I've decided what I wanna do my Master's in and my parents have given me their blessing, so yeah... InshaAllah khair. Just gotta find the right program/school now.

Nah, my major was psychology.

There were some programs that I was researching, but I am just not all about them.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of programs are you looking into?

Islamic Studies.
Preferably something with a focus on women. Looking at U of T and McGill...

Don't do anything you're not passionate about. I was looking into some Counselling/Social Work stuff before, but it wasn't what I really wanted to do. At least I would be doing it for the wrong reasons.

Islamic Studies sounds cool. Is it related to your current major?

I want to go into something unrelated to my field. And you're absolutely right about not doing something I'm not passionate about. That's why I am having such a tough time making a decision . I thought about and researched so many programs already; health administration, teaching, school psychology, social work, and human resources/industrial psychology.

Minor, yeah (Religion and Women's Studies). It'll have to be a two-year Master's, but I don't mind.

I'm interested in way too many things; that's why I don't have a major. At some point, you gotta narrow it down a little though.

So none of the things you've looked into so far interest you? And you're sick of Psych?

Don't you have to declare a major? I explored several fields during my undergrad years too and stuck to psychology. I'm not sick of psychology, but I don't wanna pursue it any further either. For me a masters is optional so I wanna study something that will keep me engaged and motivated.

Isn't a masters generally two years? Over here in the States it's 1.5 - 2 years, sometimes more depending on the program.

Nah... officially, I have three minors.
If you really look at it though, I have four: International Development Studies, English, Women's Studies and Religion. I gotta choose which three I want to show on my degree (probably IDS, Women's Studies and Religion). That's just how it worked out for me 'cause I have too many interests. Also, there's a lot of overlap... this one Anthro course I'm taking, for example, counts as both a Women's Studies and an IDS credit. It's pretty crazy. They're phasing out the three-minors degree at my school now though... I don't understand why; it was perfect for me.

Yeah, Master's are generally two years, but oftentimes in undergrad, you get a lot of knowledge about one field, right? If you're majoring in something or even specializing, then in your senior years of undergrad, you've already learned quite a bit and have likely done some independent research too. So sometimes you can get a one-year Master's program.

Me, because I'm not focusing on any one thing right now, I don't have that kind of knowledge about anything. So any Master's program I'd want to get into would have to be a two-year one. But that's a choice I've made.

Ah, I get it. Now I'm regretting not making the most of my undegrad years lol.

I wish you the best of luck in your studies . I gotta do some serious thinking and figure it all out. There's no rush I suppose, Alhamduliah.

Meh... I don't feel like I'm making the most of undergrad. There are so many things I wanted to take and couldn't... time constraints. I'd spend my whole life in undergrad if I could.

Thanks!

And no, there's no rush. Take your time. It's worth it to do something you're passionate about.

Aida- I would recommend going into something you really enjoy. If you're not sick of psychology then try something related to that. In my experience also work and school are very different. Try a field that you think you would enjoy working wise. You won't be in school THAT long unless you do med but work is a much longer period of time.

I think it also depends on your field. I studied business so I need a bit of experience before say I pursue an MBA. Although I am currently taking an MBA level course. I think I need more experience... y'all make dua I do well in this management class. It's interesting but a lot of work.
