I enrolled myself in a community college to take several credits to save money. My idea, take as many credits as possible from a community college then transfer over to a 4-year university-- saves a couple thousand in the end.
Yeah, well. I enrolled but had to drop out before I even started. Transmission on my car died and so now the 3,000 I saved up for school is bye bye. I feel ****ty that I can't go back to school this semester. I have already been out of school for a year, eh. I'm not even sure I'll be going back next semester either- might be moving out of state.
So now I'm back to square one really. I want to get a BA in Elementary and Special Education. However, I also want to take some business management, sociology, religious studies, multicultural...I hope I can take some classes as electives eh? Or maybe a major and a minor perhaps? No idea. I suppose I should begin by first deciding which university to sign away my life to. :P
Any advice to offer would be great.

alot of people mentioned fafsa, definitely look into that
i would also look into independent classes or online classes at your community college so you don't have to drive to school every day.

Watch Gay TV. There's no women at all on that channel.
Here are the choices my women will be given when it comes to higher "education":

as always, you dont understand what i wrote. I said the media, tv, internet, magazines, newspapers, news media, movies, music etc, is being used to as feminist propoganda for thier agenda of lesbian female domination. not that there are women on tv. now if you cant understand that, thats not my problem.
why is it always about women? why not both genders? Should small boys be ignored at the expense of girls for simply being born into the wrong gender? I already posted a news item on this, on how girls are outscoring boys in public schools, because too much attention is paid to thier needs, classes geared towards girls, and not boys. as a result, boys in america have a disproportinent rate of dropping out.
I have LD, I couldnt go on to grad school if i wanted to because it takes me longer to learn than your average person. but i was born a male so i guess i dont count for much.
as for the arguments that zakk made, family obligitions is not solely a female issue, as to what you are alluding to. Guys have similar problems to, especially when the burnden of family responsibility falls on them. Heck if anything, when the girls of your average middle class folks are demanding wealthy doctors, what choices do we men have in the field of education?

Re: Women and the choices we have to make for higher education
Thanks for the replies.
I kind of came up with an idea. If flaws are found, please let me know.
InshaAllah if I marry this year, next year I'll be moving to New Jersey. I'll file the fasfa application under my salary- so InshaAllah most, if not all, of my tuition will be paid for.
That's great and all but I still spend the next year not being able to go to school again. Unfortunately, they claim my dad makes too much money [bull****, they don't even take in account how many kids are in college, how many are still home, monthly finances etc. ughhhhh] for me to get any financial aid.
What can I do in the meantime? It's not certain if we'll move out to NJ, we might move to a city here in PA. So I can't even go to a community college with the guarantee my credits will be accepted. Wasted money, ya know?

I didn't make any arguments. I simply clarified the purpose of the thread. This thread is not a debate, it's a place to discuss the pros and cons of various choices for women. By all means, feel free to create a similar thread for men. While guys may have similar problems (no one is arguing that they don't) the issues discussed here are geared towards how they affect us as females. If you started a thread for the menfolk, you guys could discuss the nuances of the choices men make, i.e. professional fields vs. non-professional, etc.

Asallamu 'alaikum wa rahmatulLahi wa barakatuh

You realize, of course, that men are always paid more than women simply because they are men? So does it matter if a boy has Bs, while a girl is getting As, if in the end, the girl will still be getting less with her A and the boy getting more with his B? That is not equality either way you slice it. What feminists want is for both to be equal, not to have one elevated (unless they're the nutty ones who don't really get feminism).
Unless you were joking/parodying the 'omg what about the MEEEEENS?' whiners with that. In which case I feel rather silly posting this, but oh well. ^^;
I have no idea what I'm going to be doing with my life, so far. Starting highschool in about ten or so days, insha Allah.
Wa 'alaikum asallam

Re: Women and the choices we have to make for higher education
Anybody here working and raising kids at the same time?
I'm reading The Feminine Mistake by Leslie Bennets and it's... kind of scary.

Guess not then?
I can't find the Currently Reading thread if there is one on the new Islamica and I'm too lazy to create a new one, so...
I just read Rohinton Mistry's Family Matters. A little late, I know, but yeah...
It's such a page-turner. I started at like 2 AM and stayed up till 9:30 AM. I kept telling myself I'd put it down in half an hour, but just couldn't. Worth the lack of sleep though.
I heart Rohinton Mistry.

Re: Women and the choices we have to make for higher education
salaam all--
What has happened to Islamica!? It is soooo diffferent from when I last remember it. Thanks moonstar for giving me credit for starting the original thread Have old threads that weren't written in for months and months been thrown away for good? This thread had so many great things in it, and I was hoping to procrastinate working on my dissertation by reading through it.
How's everything going with you? Are you done with your grad program? I'm still working on mine, trying to finish the dissertation before our baby arrives in February inshallah! Make dua for me
