Send Kids To Private, Public Or Home School?

If you had the money and resources, would you send your kids to private, public or just home school them? Perhaps hire some specialist tutors in math, science, history, etc?

I plan on sending my kids to public school up until sixth grade, insha-Allah....then after that either private school or home schooling / tutor. I want to save them from the fitnah of junior high school and high school. Hopefully by sending them to public school till sixth grade they won't turn into introverted dorks...hopefully. insha-Allah

Really? What makes you say that? Because I am just thinking about my own experience in elementary school...all the kids were pretty innocent...

yea, i remember my time too. it was great. but do you have any younger siblings or other relatives in public schools? innocence is dead. our generation was probably the last decent bunch in public schools.

The thing is private schools are almost as bad as public schools now.

In Islamic schools the fitna comes from the staff, in public secular schools it comes from other students and popular culture etc.

i echo what br. rida said. we need not to reform institutions, persay, we need to reform the people- which make up these institutions (ie private school and public schools)

btw, i no longer believe in home schooling- to me that's sheltering your child and weaking their immune system in a sense. you gotta build your child's strong character to the extend they can fight off almost any fitnah at any setting.

Yeah, I used to think that was because parents pulled out all the rebel kids from regular school and threw them in Islamic school, but that's not always the case

Still I don't find Islamic elementary school to be as bad as regular elementary school..high school seems about the same though

Wow I've never thought of it like that, or heard anything of that nature..mind elaborating? Perhaps its a UK thing?

I would never send my kid to an Islamic school. If i had the money i'd send them to one of them fancy private schools. If i can't afford it then it'll be Public school in a nice area and perhaps some private tutoring during the summer.

A lot of the "fitnah" coming from public schools is a case of parents not keeping a closer eye on their kids.

Ditto.

Its often knee-jerk reactions of people when they say they're going to send their kids to an Islamic school just to prevent them from fitna. Stuff happens everywhere - public / private / islamic school and people seem to think that sending their kids to some islamic school absolves them of parental responsibility.

If and when I have kids inshallah, it'll pretty much be regular public school all the way, right up until University.

LOL I never really noticed how many of you Islamicans are knocking on 30, kinda explains a lot about this forum. Anyways as someone who is almost 10 years younger I can swear we lost our "innocence" by like 2nd Grade. All the popular kids were dating by 3rd Grade and we already had a pregnant girl in Grade 7. But with that said the nearest Islamic High school was not any better. The parents just thought sending their kids their absolved them of parental responsibility, but truth is that is VERY hard to enforce on teens especially in this technological era when teenagers are always 2 steps ahead of their parents.

I remember there were these 2 rich Saudi princes at the Islamic school who thought that they were from the "hood". They were always getting into fights and later got expelled for dealing drugs at the school. People were like "why would you deal with that kind of money", but they literally just "gang-banged" for the fun of it.

Anyways, long story short. It is flat out impossible to protect your kids from fitnah in this country or any non-"backwards" region for that matter. All you can do is give them the tools to combat the fitnah on their own when they eventually come across it. But protecting them is not going to happen unless you're looking to relocate to some Autonomous Tribal region.

Kids were pretty aware of sexual things at an early age when i was a kid.

Thats true, you have to be one the ball with your kids and pay attention to them. give them the right tools and insha'ALlah they'll make better choices than 95% of the kids out there.
