I have been to chicago a few times. Its a decent city. That one street full of indian people is pretty crazy. Feels like back home. Seems like there are a lot of tablighi jamaat people there.

I love walking around/exploring downtown at night. Does anyone know any awesome lesser known, non-chain restaurants around downtown?

There was this little halal pizza place by those downtown cabbie joints but i think it closed down.

for islamic events, check out ChicagoMuslims.com ---- where Chicago Muslims go first. some notable ones:
tonight- sh. husain does a 10-15 min. talk at ICC masjid after maghrib. also, mufti husain kamani speaks every friday night after maghrib at des plaines masjid (aka potter masjid about imam ghazali's ihya ulum ud-deen. both are eloquent, native english speakers

as for non-islamic events, this website is from the chicago tribune and has a listing of what's going on around chicago: Metromix Chicago | Your Chicago Restaurants, Nightlife & Events Guide never used it, but it seems to be comprehensive
